Knight Messenger
October 2023
Who Are We!?!
Our Vision: To share in the commitment of rigorous and high-quality instruction to meet the needs of every child.
Our 2023-2024 school theme "TEAM KNIGHT #TeamKnight!" is directly aligned with our continued vision and instructional expectations for Knight: to share in the commitment of rigorous and high-quality instruction to meet the needs of every child.
Our Mission: To provide a positive, stimulating, and secure environment that empowers the individual to grow socially, emotionally, and intellectually in order to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
Our Belief: We believe all kids can learn…and we will establish high standards of learning that we expect all students to achieve. It is our job to create an environment in our classrooms that engages students in academic work that results in a high level of achievement. We are confident that with our support and help, students can master challenging curricula, and we expect them to do so. We are prepared to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents to achieve this shared educational purpose (DuFour, 1997a).
Our Why: To engage and serve the Knight community so that students and families are resilient and empowered to be successful in our ever changing world.
Our Motto: “Everyone can be a STAR at Knight!”
HAPPY FALL, KNIGHT FAMILY!
I am so PROUD to be your principal of Knight Elementary! The students, teachers, and support staff work hard to ensure every minute of the school day is meaningful for students! Parents, thank you for all you do to partner with us to support your children. A message that continues to ring true today, more than ever, is Great Schools Build Great Communities, and in turn, Great Communities Build Great Schools! Thank you to the entire Knight community for supporting our wonderful school. We could not do this without you! #TeamKnight
Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences/Early Release Days are near - Wednesday, October 18th, and Thursday, October 19th. Early release dismissal is 12:50 PM on both of these days. Buses will arrive at your homes earlier than usual. Please plan accordingly. Conferences will be held in person or via Zoom. We understand the importance of frequent communication about grades and want to ensure you have the information you need about your child's progress. An interim progress report was emailed/sent to parents on Friday, September 29th.
Current grades for 2-5 students can be accessed on the GCPS Parent Portal anytime during the school year. If you cannot access the Parent Portal, please don't hesitate to contact our office for assistance.
In addition, I would like to remind you to contact your child's teacher—at any time during the school year— if you have any questions about your child's academic progress. Working together, we can better support our students!
Knight Family, I would also like to thank everyone who joined us at our PTA Screen on the Green! I enjoyed seeing celebrity teachers hanging out with their students, families having a chance to fellowship with others, and students enjoying the movie! Thank you for supporting our PTA.
I look forward to our continued partnership to ensure the best for our students and school community!
If there is anything I can do to support you, please don't hesitate to contact me at 770-921-2400 or toni.ferguson@gcpsk12.org.
Proud to be your principal,

SAFETY & SECURITY UPDATE - SCHOOL VESTIBULE
The safety and security vestibule has been updated with new electrical outlets installed for the independent parent check-in/check-out process.
During school hours, the entrance for visitors is restricted to designated doors near the office, which are locked until the visitor is granted access. To notify school staff of their arrival, visitors push the "bell" button on the visitor management panel found outside the main entrance door. A staff member at the school then uses the audio/visual intercom to see the visitor's face and to request a reason for the visit. Once their purpose is validated, the office staff electronically unlocks the exterior door, allowing the visitor to proceed into the vestibule.
Vestibules provide space and an opportunity to verify visitors PRIOR to gaining access to the main building and provide additional security measures. They serve as a single entry point for students checking in or checking out of school.
Visitors will go through a check-in process, entering their driver's license or a state-issued ID into a scanner. Once visitors are cleared, they are issued a detailed visitor badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of their visit. (A visitor's badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools to drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork.) Once the badge is issued, visitors will be "buzzed" into the school. Badges must be worn a visible at all times.
