White Rock Elementary
Principal Update 8/12/17
Welcome to the 2017-18 school year!
Welcome to the 2017-18 school year! I hope you enjoyed a summer vacation filled with fun and exciting memories with your loved ones. We are thrilled to welcome all of you back to a new school year of learning and growing. Our vision is WRE where ALL students will learn, grow, and succeed. Which aligns perfectly with our theme and motto this year.
"WRE One For ALL"
We are all in this together, all for one and One For ALL.
It remains an honor and privilege to serve as your principal. Please stop by, call, or email me at any time if you have questions, comments, or ideas for ways we can continue to make White Rock a great school for everyone! See you all soon!
Student Placement
A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2017-2018 school year.
Careful consideration was given to input from staff and families as well as student learning styles. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level. Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities.
Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. ALL of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students.

Modular Building Relocation
In preparation for our upcoming campus construction, which we project to begin in October, we are relocating the two-unit modular building on the east corner at Bellewood Drive to the south parking lot at Bellewood Drive and Chiswell. Music classes will still occupy this modular building, just in the new location.
In addition, I’m excited to announce that we will be installing an additional two-unit modular building that will accommodate our staff who will be displaced during construction. The additional modular building will also be located in the south parking lot at Bellewood Drive and Chiswell.
WRE Solar Eclipse Event
There is something very exciting going on in the world of science and we want our students to be a part of it. On August 21st, the moon will block out the sun and the sky will go dark in the middle of the day. While we understand that the first day of school may not be the best timing for a solar eclipse, there hasn’t been a total solar eclipse on the Continental United States since 1979 and it is the first coast to coast solar eclipse since 1918. Because of the advancements with social media and the widespread coverage of the United States, this is an opportunity for our students to be part of something really BIG!
Although Texas is not on the Path of Totality (the 70-mile wide track of the umbra or dark shadow of the moon), the state will experience an excellent partial solar eclipse – 80% of the sun will be blocked out by the moon. Click the link below to see an animation and the timing of what will be visible for RISD students.

We have something BIG planned for our entire school!
RISD provided our 5th and 6th graders with special eclipse viewing glasses and our AMAZING Dad's Club purchased the same glasses for Kinder-4th grade students! Thank you Dad's Club for all you do!!
The picture below shows what the students will be able to see using the special glasses.
Safety is our number one concern.
Please help us by communicating with your child that they should never look directly at the Sun. You can seriously hurt your eyes, and even go blind. Proper eye protection, like eclipse glasses or a Sun filter, is the only safe option. Sunglasses don't work.
WRE Choir Wants You ~ 4th - 6th Graders
Does your 4th-6th grader love music? If so, please check out this video because 'WRE Honor Choir Wants YOU!'

Photo Identification ~ Entrance To Our Campus
All visitors must follow RISD's, and WRE's, building entry procedures and must sign in at the front office upon arrival and provide proper identification to receive authorization to enter the school. If you do not provide proper identification you will not be allowed to enter the building.
Your child's safety is our number one priority! We want to thank you for adhering to our guidelines and rules, and helping keep our school safe.
Volunteer Application Form
If you or a family member would like to volunteer, you will have to complete an online background check. Please note, it takes two weeks to process.
All volunteers must submit a form annually, even if you are a returning volunteer and had one the prior year.
Here is the link: http://www.risd.org/group/community/VolunteerOpportunities.html
Do we have your current email and phone number?
If it has changed over the summer, please call the front office, 469-593-2700, or come by the WRE Office.
