Buckhorn Middle School Teacher One Step Closer to Becoming Alabama’s Teacher of the Year
(Madison County, AL.) Congratulations are in order for Stephenie Smith who is the Alabama Region 8 Secondary Teacher of the Year. Madison County Schools Superintendent Matt Massey made the announcement to staff this morning. “Mrs. Smith teaches science at Buckhorn Middle, and we are excited that she will be representing the Madison County School System as a finalist for the state teacher of the year to be announced next month. Mrs. Smith is the sixth MCSS teacher to qualify as a state teacher of the year finalist in the last seven years. What an accomplishment,” stated Superintendent Massey.
April McCutcheon, Principal at Buckhorn Middle School said, “Mrs. Smith is an integral part of the Buckhorn Middle School family. She is passionate about student advocacy, and she displays a high level of teacher leadership. She is always willing to share her ideas with colleagues and capitalize on opportunities to learn from others. Buckhorn Middle is so proud of Mrs. Smith’s well earned accomplishment.”
National Library Week
MCSS Libraries are for much more than just checking out books! They are a places for exploration and research, they are makerspaces, videography studios, and robotics training grounds; they are spaces for collaboration, alternative classroom settings, technology hubs, and even lively event spaces. All of this and more is possible because of our dedicated librarians and media specialists. Please be sure to express your appreciation and support for our librarians in the comments of each of the three videos we will post this week. #MCSSLibrariansROCK #BeBoldMCSS #NationalLibraryWeek

The Big Bad “TraWolf” Huffed and He Puffed . . .
What can YOU make with 12 gumdrops and an unlimited amount of toothpicks? A house that withstands THE BIG BAD WOLF of course! Kindergarteners in Mrs. Vandiver’s class tried to best the wolf, (a.k.a.our principal, Mr. Trawick). This STEM activity put a stop to all his huffing and puffing!
Being Flexible with Tech Tuesday at Legacy
Just before Spring Break, Legacy’s Tech Team and the Sparkman Family TIMS, hosted a joint tech training for teachers from all of our Sparkman feeder schools. Freshly made smoothies, exercise breaks with GoNoodle, and some great techie treats were shared. The focus was on taking a basic lesson for any class and “stretching” it a bit by adding a digital or tech component.
Growing Herbs. Raising Up Future Gardners.
Fourth and Fifth Grade Pond Club members meet bi-weekly to maintain our Project Pond facilities, fill bird feeders, and feed other animals housed in the pond area. Pictured here are students planting herbs. Pond Club members also choose a project to add to the pond’s natural beauty each year. This year they choose to make stepping stones out of shoe boxes.
