Scheduling for next year....

It is that time of the year where the counselors begin the scheduling process for the next school year.

Grade 6 - On Monday, December 19th, Mrs. Conklin will be in the Social Studies classes to talk about courses for next year. Decisions that will need to be made are French or Spanish? Band? Chorus? Feel free to discuss these options with your 6th grader over the weekend so they are ready to choose on Monday!

Grade 7 - On Wednesday, January 4th the 7th graders will be learning about the options for grade 8. The biggest decision is in Math, as students will need to choose between Math 8 or the Common Core Algebra I, a high school credit course. We will also spend some time learning about high school credits as there are several options available to 8th graders.

Grade 8 - The high school counselors completed initial high school course selections with the 8th grade this week. The next step is the individual scheduling meetings with Mrs. Conklin which will begin the second week in January. Many parents have requested to be a part of these meetings. Due to the high demand, the meetings will take place during the school day. I will let you know the day and time of your child's meeting once the schedule is complete.

Mindfulness classes for middle school students.

Thanks to a grant from the Bloomfield Educational Foundation, we are able to bring 8 weeks of mindfulness classes to our middle school students. There is much research to show that students who practice mindfulness show gains in memory, attention, academics, social skills, emotional regulation, self esteem and mood. As well as decreases in anxiety, stress and fatigue. Please click here for more information.

Classes start on January 9th and will rotate the periods they meet each week. Students do not have to attend all classes. Classes have to be limited to 20 students due to space and supplies, therefore students will need to sign up before each class. Any questions? Ask Mrs. Conklin
