A Note From Dr. Elliott

Dear Families,

I hope you all have enjoyed some family time together. Does anyone else feel that time is flying? I can't believe that Fall Open House Festival is right around the corner as well as our Dolphin Color Dash! All that information will be posted here in Digest as well as on Social Media.

Events

Please see the flyer below regarding our Fall Open House Festival. PTA, Seminole and Disney are excited to partner together to hold some fun and celebration in conjunction with a brief educational walk of your child's learning journey thus far. Please read the information in entirety to be prepared to work collaboratively as a School Family in making this event enjoyable for all.

  • Only TWO guardians/adults per child will be allowed in the building during their scheduled time.
  • If you have multiple children in varying grade levels, please know that teachers will NOT be in their classrooms at other times, as they are either enjoying Fall Festival with families or attending to other duties. The teachers will only be available during their scheduled time. Feel free to enjoy the festival while waiting for Open House visiting times to begin.
  • Please be considerate of our labeled entrances/exits. We can continue to have these kind of events if everyone cooperates with the guidelines and safety for everyone's health.
  • Masks will be required in the building, but not during outside activities.
  • Colored bracelets will be provided the day before Open House. Your child will be bringing those home. Please check for those. Colored bracelets will be required to enter the building during your scheduled time.

Vision and Mission of Disney

As we enter new times in this day and age, it is time for us to look at our vision and mission of Walt Disney Elementary. The teachers at Disney have indicated they would like to look at these statements and update our vision in collaboration with our community. Our vision and mission are the guiding purpose underlying our work as a learning community. These statements drive our improvement process and help us create specific actions the school will take to help direct our journey.

The Mission

A school's mission statement should reflect it's purpose. The mission is always focused on learning, both as students and educators. Who will do that learning and what learning will bring to those included? If Disney were our car, our mission is the engine.

Please take some time to review Disney's current mission statement with these questions in mind:

Disney's mission is to educate for life so every child acquires the knowledge and skills to succeed in school and beyond.

  • Does this mission still speak truth in the community?
  • Does this still communicate essentially our overall goal and purpose of learning at Disney?
  • What needs to be added? What needs to stay the same?

The Vision

A school's VISION is a statement of where it is trying to go and answers the question, "What must this school become?" These questions ask the school to picture itself in the future having achieved its mission of ensuring high levels of learning for all. The vision encompasses the culture, the structures of support, and the actions that reflect a school that meets its mission. We are creating a picture of what our ideal future will be.

Using the car analogy, if Disney were a car, the vision is our GPS.

Looking at our vision, are we answering our questions above? Have these changed.

"Together, stakeholders share the responsibility for students attaining academic and social, emotional success.

Everyone will cooperate in creating a safe and positive learning environment.

All student achieve academic excellence.

More learning makes dreams come true.

I bring this to your attention because I would like to use Dr. Lathan's Thought Exchange process to gather your thoughts about Disney's mission and vision. During the October 12th, PTA meeting, I would like to engage with the parent community in a collaborative forum which would represent the parent stakeholders' voices in the restructuring of our mission and vision. Please feel free to share your thoughts about how we can improve and grow together as a learning community.

I will be sending out the Thought Exchange by next Friday.
