The WAVA Wave
May 1, 2016
A Message from our Principal...
Dear Students, Parents & Learning Coaches,
The first week of May is teacher appreciation week. My hope is that all WAVA students take advantage of this week to send their teachers a note of appreciation for their hard work. At WAVA we have many exceptional and inspirational teachers. I am grateful to be able to work with this group of individuals and I truly believe them to be some the best teachers I have ever encounter.
I would like to extend a very special thank you to all of the staff and parents who attended our WAVA Prom 2016. It was a memorable night for our students & I enjoyed visiting with several of you who were willing to give up your Saturday night to chaperone. It was a lovely evening of dancing, visiting and eating too much dessert from the buffet.
May is often one of the busiest months in a high school student’s life. If you are a Senior, you are doing your best to complete your courses, plan for your future & collecting all the items you need to graduate. If you are an underclassman, there are courses to wrap up, choosing new classes for 2016-17 SY as well as state testing.
As a friendly reminder, students will be completing a schedule during their homeroom class next week. If they have already completed their 2016-17 schedule, they still need to attend homeroom for other communications.
Seniors were sent a Senior Awards Survey yesterday. If you have not completed the survey, please find some time to fill in the awards & scholarships you have received. Our Senior Awards night will be hosted by our wonderful counselors online Thursday May 26th at 7:00pm. All Senior Parents are invited to attend.
The month of May is a bit short with the Labor Day Holiday on May 27 & 30. It is so important for our students to make every day meaningful from now until the end of the semester. Teachers have been asked to reach out to students & students are being asked to reach out to teachers for any additional support to help them catch up & finish the semester strong!
Our April / May Student of the Month assembly will be Tuesday May 24th. Please look in your kmail for the invite to the assembly. Although Smarter Balance testing has been occurring around the state for a month, I would like to provide a friendly reminder of the upcoming Math EOC & Science EOC testing on May 25th & May 26th.
If you or your student has questions about their testing location, please talk to you homeroom teacher.
I hope you have a great day! My Virtual door is always open.

Post-Secondary Tours Week - May 9th - May 13th
WAVA has arranged tours of many types of institutions during our Post-Secondary Tours week. This is a chance for you to explore your options. The tours will be conducted by the schools with a WAVA teacher along as a host. You will need to make your own arrangements for transportation and we recommend you have an adult chaperone with you. Please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to attend but do not have an adult chaperone. We will do our best to pair you up with another parent or teacher.
Carpooling options may be available.

Using Texting/SMS for Communication
Good news for the 2016-17 school year, WAVA will be communicating with families via text messaging! We want to be sure you are receiving the most current school communications. Please be sure to check that your primary phone number is up-to-date in the OLS. Starting in August, we will begin sending 1-2 text communications per month to our enrollment approved families. If you do not wish to be contact via text, you will need to reply with STOP when you receive our first text message – this will permanently opt you out. If you change your mind and would like to begin receiving text message, you can contact Denise Roberts at info@wava.org to reverse the decision.
Learning Coach Coffee Chats are every week! Please Join Us.
This is a chance for WAVA Learning Coaches to connect with other WAVA Learning Coaches to talk about a specific topic for 30 minutes every week. Check your schedule on your Learning Coach account. If you don't see it on your schedule, click on the links below.
