LRMS: Week at a Glance
October 5 - October 9, 2015
Sayings from Skinner
As we approach the end of the 9 weeks and the conclusion of 45 days of school, it is time for us to begin studying our interim assessment data, our ELT data, our common assessment data, and other data sources to examine what we have accomplished AND what is left to accomplish. This is a time for us to reflect on the plans we set forth in our LSPI and in our initial days of the school year, and determine if we need to make any adjustments to our efforts.
Keep in mind that this is just a "moment in time" and that this data is all just another way for us to think about subsequent instruction. We are taking a hard look at exactly how our kids are performing and what we might need to do more of and/or what we might need to adjust, so that we can come as close as possible to meeting our goals (on the LSPI and on our individual RBES) by year's end.
Just so that all are aware, Mr. Wilbanks will be coming to our school on October 20, to participate in my presentation (typically just for the Assistant Superintendent) of that data and our efforts. He has made a conscientious efforts in the past few years to be a part of these reviews at various schools, and I am honored that he has selected to be at Radloff this fall. He may (during his visit that day) visit some classrooms, so just don't be surprised if he pops in that day! As our CEO/Superintendent, he is deeply interested in the work that occurs at the local school level, and wants to see and celebrate the efforts we are undertaking to help our students be successful.
I know that we have TONS of amazing things happening, and I am excited to be able to report on these and show them off to our district leadership. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you for working so closely and diligently with our students -- and really helping them to READ, REACH, and get more READY every day!!!!!
Enjoy your week -- and (hopefully) a little more beautiful fall sunshine!
Sarah
News You Can Use
1) Kudos, Congratulations, and Other Matters of Good News:
- From Lauren Bruner: Huge THANKS to Mr. Moore for supporting our team during conferences and helping us with the parents that were in the hall waiting. Also, for all of his continued support every other "regular" school day!
- Brigette Brown and the PBIS team!!! What a great way to kick off our Paloozas -- and in spite of the need for a change in plans and LOTs of rain!! Thank you, team, for all your planning and all your hard work in pulling it together and making it a success!! Thank you to all of the teachers who did their parts to get students to/from the event and monitoring and helping out!!!!
- THANKS, in advance, for all who are working on the Hispanic Heritage Celebration -- the advance PR looks amazing, and it is evident that this will be another great evening for families and faculty to come together in a learning community.
- Congratulations to the 2015-16 Step Team and Coach Kelsi Carter:
2) October 5th is FINAL DAY TO REGISTER TO VOTE in NOVEMBER election!!
Just remember that the only item on the November ballot will be the eSplost. If you have not yet registered, remember that our own Alma Garcia and Ron Moore are Deputy Registrars and can assist you with this task.
Early Voting and Absentee Voting begins on October 12th.
If you still want more info. on the eSplost, it is available on the GCPS website as well as on our website.
3) ABC Report -- We still have 28% of our students at risk for their grades as we near the midterm mark.
Again -- dig down to the individual student and make sure that you KNOW who is on that list from your classes/team!! If you have a child who is "at risk," make sure that there is documentation of the contacts you have made home, the interventions you have tried/offered, there is a signed Academic Contract, and that efforts are clearly documented that we are reaching out and working together to help each child find success.
4) ELT Data
We are nearing the first "report out" as a school on our ELT efforts --- entering your data is essential to that report out!! Please pay attention to the emails from your ELT-Leadership Team -- they are giving great feedback and instructions on where everyone should be and what all should have accomplished by now!
5) Gallup Engagement Poll
Monday is the FINAL day for this!!
- Gallup Employee Engagement Survey -- the Gallup Agency will send one more email to those who have not yet completed the survey on Monday, October 5th -- While it is not mandatory to complete this, it does give us great data to consider if we have as many folks as possible do so (as of late last week only about half of our folks have done it). Please take a moment and give your feedback!
We'd love to have as much participation as possible --- if you have NOT yet completed this brief survey, please do so today!!!! Your responses help us know what is going well, and what needs attention/improvement! Your input is greatly valued!
6) Common Assessments
These should be underway in every academic classroom --- remember that our LSPI requires at least 3 common assessments (with common lessons/plans) each semester. Data will be collected on these --- and when you are reviewing these with students, please do not send common assessments home -- we need to keep them as secure as possible for the ability to reuse them!
7) Food within and leaving the cafeteria -- and potentially hungry kids
There is much good intent with the sharing of meal items and removing things from the cafeteria to make sure all students are well fed. There is also great heartbreak in watching kids throw away much food each day. Please keep in mind that we CANNOT help kids "share" food with others nor can we "save up" food to share with others. These are actions against federal food guidelines and can jeopardize our lunch program as well as the evaluations of our cafeteria and our SNP staff (who are amazing)!! I know there are a lot of good intentions out there, but please know that we MUST follow the guidelines as they are given to us!!! If you know of a particular child/children who are hungry or are going without enough food, please make sure a counselor and/or AP knows. If you have questions about these lunch guidelines, feel free to ask Andrea Murray or Sarah Skinner.
8) All Pro Dads' meeting
This is a parent outreach meeting scheduled for October 14th at 8:00 a.m. in the Media Center --- are there a "few good men" on the faculty who would be willing to come and mingle with these dads/parents and support this effort? Please let Lisa Wells know if you're willing/able to attend!
