Car Rider Pick-up

If you pick up your child from school in the afternoon using the car pick-up line, please don’t come north from Buchanan Street down Wabash Street to get into the car pick-up line. This is causing the Wabash Street to become backed up. Please come from U.S. 40 turning south on to Wabash Street. If you do not want to wait, the line moves very quickly at 3:45 pm. Thank you for your continued help in creating a quick and safe dismissal for our children.

Outside Temperatures

Now that the temperatures are starting to rise we will be going outside for recess more often. Please have your child/children dress appropriately for the temperature. Watch the weather forecast to see what the meteorologists are predicting. Students go out for recess no matter what they are wearing if the temperature is above 20 degrees.

News from the Cafeteria

I am often told about the amount of food our kids throw away. Being in an office and not able to spend a lot of time at each cafeteria, I decided to take several days to monitor the amount of food being thrown away in several of our schools. It was shocking to really see what children are throwing away. This is when I decided to contact a company called Food Rescue. The Food Rescue program helps connect our schools with local food pantries and soup kitchens. Any unopened food items such as cartons of milk, string cheese, crackers, and whole fruit can be donated. The children will place unopened items in a bin and our cafeteria staff will save it for Food Rescue trucks to pick up.

We want to see our children eat their whole lunch, however I know that there are times when they pick up items and then they decide that maybe they don’t want them. I do not want the kids to be donating because they think they are helping others. I only want them donating food items because they choose not to eat the item or because they are full. We will be starting the Food Rescue program at Central Elementary on Monday, April 13, 2015.

Call Out for Candidates

It is time to begin thinking about the 2015-2016 PTO Board! If you are interested in serving as a member of next year’s PTO Board, click HERE to read a brief summary about each position. Then, print the form out and return it to Central Elementary. All upcoming K–5th grade parents are invited to run for Board positions. As you fill out the form, if there is more than one position you are interested in, please indicate preference in number order (1st choice, 2nd choice, etc.) You may serve in only one position for the year.

The election for the 2015-2016 Central Elementary PTO Board Members will be held at the May PTO meeting at Central Elementary in the cafeteria at 6:30 pm.

Student Placement Questionnaires

We are already in the process of making plans for the upcoming school year. This includes developing class rosters for each teacher. To help with this process, we invite parents to fill out and return the Student Placement Questionnaire form to our office. To print a copy of this form click HERE. While we cannot honor requests for specific teachers, we will look at the information you provide on this form and use it to make the best possible match for your child’s needs. This form is optional for parents. Placement forms are due to our office by Wednesday, April 15, 2015. No forms will be considered after this date.


Please join us for Sugar Groves Annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday March 28th, 2015 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm! We will be enjoying snacks, a petting zoo and pictures with the Easter Bunny! Don’t forget the Easter egg hunt and many other fun activities! We hope to see everybody out for a fun day at Sugar Grove! The address is 5865 Sugar Lane Drive, Plainfield, Indiana.

PCSC Food Services is Hiring

Are you looking for a part-time job? Are you looking to earn some extra income while your kids are at school? Would you enjoy preparing and/or serving healthy food to children? No nights, weekends or holidays! We are currently looking for energetic, upbeat people to fill open positions in the cafeterias within PCSC.

Positions Open: Substitute but could lead into full time

School(s): multiple

Experience: No experience required. Kitchen experience is helpful.

Central Elementary Calendar

Here are some special days or events that you will want to know about.

  • Monday, March 23, 2015 is a professional development day for teachers. There is no school for students.
  • Spring Break is Friday, March 27, 2015 through Friday, April 3, 2015. Have a fun and safe vacation!
  • PCSC Kindergarten Round-up will be on April 8th and 9th from 9:00-2:00 pm and again from 5:00-7:00 pm at Clarks Creek Elementary. Please enter through Door 5.

  • The Little Quakers Academy will begin accepting applications for 2015-2016 enrollment in its community preschool program beginning February 1, 2015. Look for registration information to be posted on the Little Quakers Academy website.

Central Elementary is an incredible school with a long and rich history. Originally built in 1931 in downtown Plainfield, Indiana, our school has served as Plainfield High School, Plainfield Junior High School, and is now an elementary with approximately 600 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
