Watch Dogs

Watch D.O.G.S. is a national program we participate in at Ewalt to involve dads in the school experience. Dads, grandpas, uncles, adult brothers are invited to volunteer at school for a day or portion of a day. During the time they are scheduled, they help in different classrooms during small group times or in PE. "Dads" also get to go to recess and lunch with students. To volunteer you just have to sign up and you can do that by writing your name on the calendar outside the office, calling the office, emailing kthackery@usd402.com your time, or by signing up on the school website. The kids love having 'dads" in the building and dads love it too. You can volunteer as many days as you would like and there is not a limit for how many Watch Dogs we can have each day. The video below is from some of the kids whose dads have participated. Please watch and consider becoming a Watch Dog.

Redesign and Site Council

Hopefully you have all heard that Ewalt, along with the other elementary schools in the district, voted to participate in the redesign process this year. This is an opportunity for the Ewalt community to create the type of school we want for our students. In order for us to do that we need your help. Throughout the year we will be sending home surveys, having meetings, and asking for your input regarding the different pillars of redesign. Site council, which meets 4 times a year, is a great way for you to be a part of this conversation. Our first Site Council meeting is Monday, September 23rd from 6-7 in the Ewalt library. During this meeting we will be sharing the timeline for redesign, what the 4 parts are, and doing an activity to continue the conversation regarding why we think this is important. Everyone is invited to attend site council meetings. Thank you to those of you who completed the quick survey questions. If you did not get a chance to do so, please click on the attached link. Hope to see you on the 23rd!

2nd Grade Celebrates Grandparents Day

Friday, September 6th our 2nd graders celebrated the wonderfulness of Grandparents. Grandparents were invited to school for tea and cookies, games and tours of the building. This annual event is a great way for kids to spend time with their grandparents and share some of the fun things they do at school. Thank you to all the grandparents and volunteers for making this such a special day.

New Staff

We are very lucky to be welcoming and welcoming back some great staff members to Ewalt this year. New staff are:

4 year old Preschool - Emily Ramsey

3rd Grade - Jason Puckett

4th Grade - Kade Kinnamon and Leslie Lewellen

5th Grade - not new, but she moved up - Katie Harrison

Paraprofessionals: Lacie Wilson, Angela Fooshee, Kara Scott, Kali Knox, Tiffany Jones, Sara Self, Tiphanie Smith, and Kynnedy Myers (joined us during the year last year)

We are very excited to have them all with us.

Box Tops

Collecting Box Tops is a great way to help support PTO and the school that doesn't cost you any extra money. The Box Top program is changing the way they collect box tops this year to hopefully make it easier. Since this is a transition year, you can still cut out and send box tops to school. The new way is to download the Box Tops app, select Ewalt as your school and then scan your receipts. If you don't want to scan your receipts, you can just send them in and PTO will scan them for you. The app will automatically deposit 10 cents into the Ewalt Box Top account. Our goal this year is to earn $500 in Box Tops. If we collect $250 during the first semester, PTO is giving the school a popcorn party. Thank you for supporting the school by sharing your Box Tops.

Preschool Visits LakePoint

Mrs. Nusz and Ms. Mendee's preschool class made their first visit to LakePoint Nursing Home today. The students will travel over once each month to do activity with the residents. Students love doing activities with the residents and today residents even gave up getting their nails done to play with the kids.
