21 Sports ... 1 Team ... WE ARE HOBART!
Ok Bricks ... it's Homecoming week ... AGAIN!
In the immortal words of Mr. Lawrence Welk ... "a one and a two and a three"
Our team will shine
Oh, our team will shine tonight
Our team will shine
Oh, our team will shine tonight
Our team will shine
When the sun goes down
And the moon comes up
It's time for BricksCenter!

Tuesday @ Calumet, our Brickie cagers faced off with the defending 3A Sectional Champion Calumet Warriors ... currently 15-8 on the season. As are most games with our boys this winter, it was a DOG FIGHT! Hobart has been stingy on D-D-D-DEFENSE and it showed on the court as we held the Warriors to almost 20 points below their season average!! Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as the Brickies struggled to find much offense against Calumet's pressure and lost a close one 43-41. Sophomore David Brown led the young Brickies with 17 points and 8 rebounds.
Friday @ Highland, it was a Northwest Crossroads Conference SHOWDOWN between the Brickies and the Trojans. Inside the newly renovated Highland Fieldhouse, Hobart looked to play the role of spoiler on Highland's SENIOR NIGHT! Remember how stingy our D-D-D-DEFENSE was against Calumet? Crank that up about 5 notches and you know what we did to Highland! Hobart led the ENTIRE GAME ... 12-9 after 1 and 19-11 at the half - that's right, Highland only scored 2 POINTS in the 2nd quarter!! The 3rd quarter saw more of the same as the Brickies extended the lead to 15 points, 32-17! Obviously, Highland would not go down without a fight, but OUR BOYS DID SHINE in holding them off to secure the 41-27 VICTORY! Hobart got contributions from ALL OVER the place in the win ... including double-figure scoring from junior Tyler Schultz!
Saturday @ Merrillville, the Brickies faced off with the always talented Pirates - a potential sectional opponent. On this night, it was the Pirates who clamped down on D-D-D-DEFENSE and held Hobart to only 6 first half points ... leading 29-6 at the break. Playing their 3rd game in 5 days took it's toll on the Bricks as they could not find any rhythm on the offensive end during the first 16 minutes. The 2nd half told a different story as Hobart FINALLY found the bottom of the net and was able to play the Pirates even - losing only 33-30 in the final 16 minutes. The actual game was much closer than the final score of 62-36.
With two games left in the regular season, Hobart will look to gain some momentum heading into the Sectional, which starts on February 26th over at Portage.

Swimming & Diving
During the most important week of the season, we couldn't practice in our own pool because of an unforeseen breakdown. THANK YOU to our maintenance staff for everything they did to try and get it up and running, but it would not cooperate ... therefore, THANK YOU to both Lake Central and Portage for allowing our kids to come practice in their pools!
Ok, on Friday night and all day Saturday, our boys were FANTASTIC over at Chesterton! In spite of all the obstacles they've had to overcome this winter, the Brickies showed their toughness, talent and resiliency! Our guys had personal best times ACROSS THE POOL as we put multiple individuals on the podium - highlighted by senior Luke Tilford's SCHOOL RECORD SETTING performance in the 500-yd freestyle! The 200-yd Freestyle Relay team of seniors Wyatt Decanter, Taylor Walker, Brad Goben and Tilford missed the school record by 1 second on their way to a 3rd place finish behind powerhouse programs Chesterton and Valparaiso! Our divers were setting personal bests ACROSS THE BOARD as well! Freshman Ethan Ferba placed 6th overall - only 2 spots outside of qualifying for the regional!
Overall, Hobart placed 5th as a team out of 11 schools - only 6 points shy of a 4th place finish!
Here are your sectional results:
200 medley relay - senior Miguel Castillo, freshman Jeydan Fifer and sophomores Chad Tomaga and Danny Leonard - 9th place
200 free - senior Luke Tilford— 4th place; senior Taylor Walker— 9th place
200 IM - senior Brad Goben— 9th place
50 free - senior Wyatt Decanter— 7th place
