Chris Pike Named Head Varsity Wrestling Coach
On June 1, 2020 Chris Pike, 1996 HT graduate, was approved as a teacher and Head Varsity Wrestling Coach at Hewitt-Trussville. Pike has 18 years experience as a teacher and coach in Alabama. During his seven-year tenure at Thompson High School, he was an Assistant Wrestling Coach on four State Championship teams, and was voted twice the Alabama Assistant Wrestling Coach of the Year. Coach Pike will also coach Middle School Football at Hewitt-Trussville. Coach Pike said, “I am grateful to the Lord for providing me with this opportunity to come home to Hewitt-Trussville High School. I have many people to thank for this opportunity, but none greater than Shawn Weltzin from Thompson High School, a friend and colleague who showed me the true foundation of a championship program. I am thankful that Mr. Salem and Mr. Walker entrusted me with the responsibility of leading the Wrestling program moving forward, and I assure you they will be very proud of that decision. Hewitt-Trussville is one of the most storied wrestling programs in the state over the last 40 plus years, and we will build off of that strong foundation in moving forward with our program.” Trussville City Schools Athletics Director Lance Walker stated, “I am excited that Chris is coming back home to lead our Wrestling program. Chris is a Hewitt-Trussville alum and this community is very special to him. Coach Pike’s references all spoke of his character and hard work as a teacher and a coach. I am confident that he is the person we need to lead our Wrestling program forward.” Coach Pike played Football and graduated with his Bachelor's degree from the University of West Alabama in 2001. In 2009, he completed his Master’s degree at Jacksonville State University. Later, he earned his Educational Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University. From 2005-2010, Coach Pike taught and coached at Pell City High School. He served as Head Wrestling Coach and Assistant Football Coach. From 2010-2012, Pike worked at Pelham High School where he coached Wrestling and assisted with Football. He has been a head wrestling coach for 8 years prior to this position with a dual record of 149-73. Chris has three children Riley (22), Katy (15), and Maggie (12). He is currently engaged to Jill Honeycutt Green of Trussville
