Digital Citizenship!
Up next is digital citizenship lessons for the 4th and 5th Graders with emphasis on being safe with their iPads.
Scholastic Book Fair
Thanks also goes out to all who visited. Our kiddos were very lucky to receive so many wonderful books and our teachers are lucky to receive books from their teacher wish lists.
We sold over $4,000 in books and our school will receive %50 back in Scholastic Dollars to spend on more books for our library and classrooms.
Thank you!
Genius Hour!
The above picture is the "5th Grade Band". The idea was that they create musical instruments that they could play without using their hands. These geniuses did a fantastic job!
Each student follows a specific process to get their project approved by a teacher and after they complete their project they present it to the class. They are able to integrate the use of their iPads in the research portion of the process, which is fantastic.
For more about what this idea is based on, visit Geniushour.com.
Scratch Programming
Scratch is a block-based programming language that is perfect for making games, animations, interactive stories and other visually rich programs.
Mitchel Resnick, a Professor of Learning Research at the MIT Media Lab said, "In the process of learning to code, people learn many other things. They are not just learning to code, they are coding to learn. In addition to learning mathematical and computational ideas (such as variables and conditionals), they are also learning strategies for solving problems, designing projects, and communicating ideas. These skills are useful not just for computer scientists but for everyone, regardless of age, background, interests, or occupation."
I am excited to offer another session of Scratch Programming for our kids this winter. Please be on the lookout for the Winter Enrichment Catalog for more information.
