Parent Conferences!
September 14th will be our first Parent Conference. For new students and parents the procedure is that all the teachers will be in the two gyms! We will have Pod teachers all together in one gym. The other teachers will be in the other gym. Parents and students do not need to meet with each teacher. They are welcome to visit with teachers that they have questions for or need some help. If lines are long we encurage parents and teachers to be considerate of others and move through quickly. If more discussion is needed it may be that they meet together another time.
Teachers will be in the gyms from 3:30 to 7:00 pm.
Attendance Reminders
Absences may be excused either by calling 801-465-6040, replying to the attendance emails, or sending in a note (within two school days).
We have began marking tardies for students! Please know that we will continue to work with students who are having problems with lockers or finding classes.
The basic part of the tardy policy is we want students to class on time for the maximum amount of learning time. Students who are tardy will need to be escorted to class by an administrator, success coach, or counselor. At times they may receive a start ticket, which helps us track tardies. Students are allowed 3 free tardies each term, without any consequences. On the 4th tardy and each one after that they will need to serve a 30 min. detention on Tuesday or Thursday after school. Parents will be notified when students are tardy. If a student sluffs a class or chooses not to go they will be marked with an "S" and have to serve an hour for each sluff. Students can only serve 30 minutes each day.
Important Dates!
Sept. 11th through15th is "Kindness Week!"
Sept. 14th Parent Teacher Conference's- 3:30 - 7:00pm in both gyms.
Drama Classes
It may look like the students are lost and walking in circles! Actually they are walking in grids (following the tile lines) while working to memorize lines for plays in class!
Math Department
Each month the math department will share something that you can do as a family to help students enjoy math. This month, however, is just for the adults. Here are 6 things you can do to help your child with math:
Encourage children to play math puzzles and games
Always be encouraging
Never associate math with speed
Never share with your children the idea that you were bad at math at school or you dislike it
Encourage number sense
Encourage a growth mindset
To learn more about each of these 6 things and access additional resources read the articles below!
