LES Science Day
On Friday, May 10, 2019, the LES hosted Science Day. The day was organized by several parents and provided students with the opportunity to visit several stations which focused on science related topics such as animals, the solar system and rocks and minerals. The day concluded with a focus on fossils and dinosaurs and an assembly for the entire school.
Jungle Book at the UES
On Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 the UES premiered their performance of the “Jungle Book.” This show was incredibly well done and was an amazing success. We congratulate the students and staff who made this production possible.

Screenagers Movie
On Wednesday, May 8, 2019, the Middle School hosted a viewing of the documentary, “Screenagers,” which focused on teenagers and their interaction with technology. The documentary provided parents with thoughts and ideas relative to the regulation and support of their children and their use of technology. Nearly 150 people were in attendance for this production.

Annual Bucks County High School Seatbelt Safety Challenge
New Hope-Solebury High School is the overall winner of the 12th Annual Bucks County High School Seatbelt Safety Challenge Through anonymous surveys TMA of Bucks County identified that New Hope-Solebury student drivers had the highest overall seatbelt use over 19 other Bucks County high schools that participated in the challenge.
American Scholastic Press Association
Our Lion’s Tale Student Newspaper received first place from the American Scholastic Press Association in this year’s contest. We are very proud of the editors for our school newspaper for this incredible achievement.
Points of Pride
The School Review
New Hope-Solebury High School and Middle School were identified by The School Review as being recognized as being two of the “Best Schools in Philadelphia.” This is a relatively new organization which is rating schools in our area, both schools were identified as being outstanding schools in the region.
School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Recognition
Teachers from our LES and UES attended the state School-Wide Positive Behavior Support Conference in Hersey this month where they were presented with banners acknowledging the implementation of the Tier 1 level of interventions of the program at both schools. Earlier in the year each school was visited by independent evaluators who determined that the schools were implementing the program with fidelity and were worthy of recognition.
School District News and Updates
IU Hope Program
Students from our IU Hope program were featured in an article entitled, “Newtown Barber Shop Gives Special Needs Boys Fresh Prom Haircuts.” This was an excellent article about how our community partners work so well with our school district to provide support for our students in the IU Hope Program. This story was also featured by Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick at the U.S. House of Representatives.
Rotary Fundraiser
Mr. Mark Cowell, School Director, coordinated a fundraiser to support a high school robotics team on behalf of the Lambertville New Hope Rotary Club. This event was held on May 19, 2019 at the River Cat Café. The fundraiser featured student musical performers and the middle school robotics students and the high school robotics teacher.

District Art Exhibit
The New Hope-Solebury School District hosted an exhibit of the school district’s newly returned art collection on May 21, 2019. This exhibit provided an opportunity for the community to view this unique collection and also allowed us to welcome some of our community partners and local dignitaries to our school district. The event also featured student art work and music as a function of this exhibit.
School Board & Committee Updates
Advocacy Day
On Monday, April 29, 2019, Mrs. Alderfer attended PSBA Advocacy Day in Harrisburg at the State Capital. During her visit she had the chance to interface with our lawmakers including Wendi Thomas and Steve Santasiero. Through her efforts and that of other representatives of PSBA and PASA, both legislators signed on the charter school bills that we supported in our recent Board resolution.
At the May 23, 2019, Board of School Directors Meeting the following items were approved:
- Facilities Matters including boiler replacement and acceptance into the Suburban I League.
- Finance Matters including Treasurer's Report, payment of bills and budget transfers. Approval of Capital Reserve and Food Service Budget, transportation agreement, legal services agreement, agreement with BCIU for technology pool consortium, Caron Foundation agreement, agreement with BCIU for IU Hope program, environment services contract and proposed final budget for 2019-2020 school year.
- Human Resource Matters including retirements/resignations, appointments, transfers and leaves of absence.
- Policy Matters including approval of the following Policies:

Board Members presented their Committee Reports and Liaison Reports regarding the Bucks County Intermediate Unit, Middle Bucks Institute of Technology and the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.
