Teen Dating Resources
It's February - one day stands out on the calendar to many teens - Valentine's Day! Gone are the days of passing out cutesy Valentine's Day cards to everyone and class parties. Junior High and Senior High is all about 'couples' and much of teen conversation is centered around relationships.
Think back to your days as a teenager in school and the angst of Valentine's Day. Many students begin to feel the pressure to be in a 'couple' for Valentine's Day.
Below are a few articles about teen dating to help you navigate the world of teen dating.
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. This is a very sensitive topic, but it is an important topic. Dating violence has been in the main stream media, with high profile figures talking about the subject. It is a topic of conversation and a way to discuss healthy relationships with your student(s).
Resources below are to help you become familiar with the subject and be able to talk with your student(s) and provide guidance. If you know anyone who may be in an abusive situation (student or adult), there are local resources available for support.
The SCUC Mental Health & Safety program this month will focus on Teen Dating Violence and Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention this month (Monday, February 26, 6P, Marion Dolford Learning Center, 200 Schlather St, Cibolo).

Mental Health Support
There is a trend of students wanting to go to 'therapy'. This generation is very open about mental health and hear the benefits of 'therapy' from many in the public eye. The decision for a student to go to 'therapy' is a parent decision. This generation views mental health differently than past generations. They welcome the opportunity to explore their thoughts and emotions with a wise, trained adult to help them navigate the pressures of this world. There are different entry level options available for your student; CIS at Clemens or Corbett, SCUC mental health counselors, MFLC through JBSA, Military One Source, through your faith community and more. All of these provide confidential options for your student(s) that may help your student find the guidance they are seeking.
To help you navigate a few of the options SCUC offers, here is a link of services available through SCUC. https://www.scuc.txed.net/Page/35197.
