Classified Employees Week
Edgemont appreciates the work of our classified staff as they help keep our school up and running on a daily basis. Oftentimes they are the first people to greet students in the morning and the last to see them leave at the end of the day. This group includes our kitchen staff, secretaries, security, custodians, and paraeducators. They are an essential group and we appreciate them!
ASB Spring Basket Sale
The Edgemont ASB will be partnering with Windmill Gardens on a spring plant sale. The plants will be in the form of hanging baskets that look great at home or at work.
Students will be taking orders during the month of March and then the items will be delivered to the school between June 13th and 17th.
The picture below provides some examples of the different plants that might be included in your order. Windmill Gardens cannot reserve or guarantee a specific color or mix but every basket will be beautiful and unique.
COVID Updates
The Department of Health recently updated the protocols related to COVID-19. Here are the things that will end after March 11:
- Mask mandate
- Test to Stay Program
- Testing of athletes
- Contact tracing
As a school we will continue to do our best with physical distancing and encourage good practices with hygiene (sanitizing, washing hands, etc.). We will also maintain our isolation room in case we have students who display symptoms. Those students with symptoms or who test positive will still be required to isolate at home.
Puyallup Softball Camp
PHS softball will be offering a skill building clinic for students in grades 3-8 on Saturday, March 19. They will be working on hitting, fielding, pitching and throwing fundamentals. Registration closes Monday, March 14. Please see the attachment below for additional information.

PREVENTION MESSAGE
Risk & Protective Factors
As youth grow and reach their developmental competencies, there are contextual variables that promote or hinder the process. These are frequently referred to as protective and risk factors.
The presence or absence and various combinations of protective and risk factors contribute to the mental health of youth. Identifying protective and risk factors in youth may guide the prevention and intervention strategies to pursue with them. Protective and risk factors may also influence the course mental health disorders might take if present.
A protective factor can be defined as “a characteristic at the biological, psychological, family, or community (including peers and culture) level that is associated with a lower likelihood of problem outcomes or that reduces the negative impact of a risk factor on problem outcomes.” Conversely, a risk factor can be defined as “a characteristic at the biological, psychological, family, community, or cultural level that precedes and is associated with a higher likelihood of problem outcomes.”
Please see the link below for examples of protective and risk factors by five domains: youth, family, peer, community, and society.
