September 23 - General PTO meeting

Mrs. Beard

PTO is putting together a School Directory! READ Before SEPTEMBER 17TH!

Dear Fox Hill Families:

This year we are offering a student/family directory to our Fox Hill community. The directory will be accessible only online (no printed copies) and password-protected. If families wish to opt-out or restrict their info in the Fox Hill directory, they can make that request through either of these forms: (English) or (Spanish). Parents only need to complete this form if they want to opt-out, change, or restrict some info.

If you do not opt-out, restrict info, or request changes, the following information will be included exactly as it’s listed in Skyward:

Student name, address, phone number, parent/guardian name(s), and email

  • If you are okay with having this information, as it appears in Skyward, in a password-protected directory, you do not need to do anything. You do not need to complete a form!

  • If you do NOT want your student’s info to be included in the directory, you must opt out by September 17th.

    • You can opt-out, restrict info, or submit changes using the google OPT out forms: (English) or (Spanish).

    • If you want to include only SOME of the information listed above, you can submit that request via the google OPT-out form (e.g. share my email, but not our physical address).

    • If you want to make any changes (e.g. use a different nickname from the name in Skyward), you can submit those changes via the google OPT-out form.

  • Please note: changes submitted will ONLY apply to the directory. If you need to change your student’s or family’s information in Skyward, you MUST do so from your Skyward account or by calling the Fox Hill main office.

Thank you for your support! If you have any questions, please send them to

From PTO - Fox Hill POD Parents

The PTO is excited to launch a new program to support the teachers and students at Fox Hill. At Fox Hill, each grade level is divided into its own Pod. This year each Pod will have one (or more) Pod Parents serving each grade. The Pod Parent will work with grade level teachers to act as a support to the classrooms and grade level as a whole. They will communicate regularly with the grade level teachers in order to best identify teacher needs and ideas. This could include organizing/soliciting parent donations for the classrooms, helping to organize class parties, or organizing parent volunteers. The PTO Executive Board is grateful to all the parents that have volunteered to help launch this new program. Please be on the look out for additional communication from your Pod Parent!

From the WT Equity Leadership Team--Parent/Caregiver Series

The District Equity Leadership Team (DELT) initiated a Parent-Caregiver Education Series last year to explore issues of equity in education. Equity is the concept of giving students what they need to thrive within school systems. Each student has unique strengths, gifts, and different lived experiences that we have to be mindful of when trying to support academic and social emotional needs. We also recognize that families also need tools and support to help their children succeed, and spaces for shared learning to understand how schools are promoting equitable practices. Part I of the series will focus on high ability, implicit bias education, special education, and sessions pertaining to culture and identities to help families understand the work we are doing to create environments where students can be their authentic self. The sessions will be in a webinar format where families can register and learn as a community. We look forward to you joining and will offer more sessions next semester too!

Karen Brown is our first presenter, next Thursday, September 16th from 6-7pm. She is the Director of Gifted and Accelerated Learning in Scottsdale Unified School District. Karen teaches in the Gifted Education Masters’ Program at Arizona State University and consults throughout the country. She was the recipient of 2018 National Association of Gifted Children (NAGC) Specialist’s and Masters Award, co-recipient of the 2013 NAGC Professional Network Award, and the 2013 AAGT Gifted Teacher of the Year. She has co-authored two books, ‘Differentiated Lessons for Every Learner’ and ‘A Teacher’s Guide to Flexible Grouping and Collaborative Learning,’ winner of the 2019 NAGC Book of the Year Award. She will have a conversation with all WT families who are new to high ability programming.

Should your student be absent for any reason, please call the attendance line at 317-259-5230 by 9:00 a.m. to report the absence. If a child’s absence is not called into the attendance line by 9:00 a.m., the child will be marked unexcused.

**The State of Indiana requires that we send letters of notification to the families of children with excessive tardies (6 or more) and/or absences (4 or more unexcused). These letters will be sent on a regular basis.

Car Rider Updates and Reminders

***It is helpful if your child can exit and enter your car at the door that is closest to the Fox Hill sidewalk.

Students should have items ready to go (mask on, backpack, lunch bag, etc.) before exiting. Students should WAIT for the FH staff member to release them from their car.

***Please have your car tag is hanging from your rearview mirror - number side facing forward

***Car rider pick up line up concludes around 3:40pm. If you are not at school by that time, you will need to park in the front parking lot and come to the front office to retrieve your student. The front office closes at 4pm.

***We are asking families not to park and walk up to the car rider line or walk to the front office to bypass the car line. We only allowed this accommodation for the first 3 days as dismissal processes were being fine-tuned. The office does not dismiss car riders from the office area during school dismissal time, 3pm-3:40pm. If you have a special circumstance in regard to walking, please contact Mrs. Beard.

From the Transportation Department

As we continue to experience driver shortages, the MSDWT Transportation Department asks for your patience as we work to fill vacancies. Unfortunately, the driver shortages have increased this week, and we have had to explore more re-routing options and combination routes. As a result, bus routes may change and route times may be longer. Notifications will be sent to impacted families and Here Comes the Bus App remains the best way to stay informed.

If family circumstances allow, we would encourage parents who are able to transport their student(s) to and from school to do so as we work through these staffing challenges.

Student safety remains our top priority, and we will continue to provide our students with safe transportation to and from school and school activities.

Please review and share the driver recruitment flyer attached if you or anyone you know might be interested in serving as a bus driver for our schools.
