Weekly Updates 9/5 - 9/9
Greetings Lemira Family:
This year, we will continue to "Lead and Learn with Intention and Optimism as we Nurture the Success of all Students", for we are the L.I.O.N.S. Our mission is to motivate, inspire, and educate all students to be college and career ready.
Updates:
1. Labor Day: There will be no school Monday, September 5th due to the Labor Day Holiday. Classes will resume Tuesday, September 6th at 7:30am.
2. Revamping of Car Dismissal Lines: We are currently working with the Sumter Police Department to revamp our parent pick up line in the afternoons to decrease the amount of cars lined up on busy intersecting roads surrounding the school. A detailed letter explaining the revision, along with a map and drone simulation will be sent home Wed. (9/7) in students' communication folders and posted to our social media pages. Starting 9/12, the new procedures will begin. The city of Sumter Police will assist us with the transition during afternoon pick up.
3. From the Nurses' Desk:
Dental Van (September 9th, 2022) - We are excited to announce that the Access Dental Van will be at Lemira on Sept 9th. At this visit, there will be cleanings by a hygienist and the dentist will do exams only. Restorative care will be given at the second visit. The Access staff will service 35 students at this essential visit. They will be returning to see more students at a later scheduled date. Students who have returned signed permission forms will be allowed to receive the services.
4. Spirit Day: We will host our first Spirit Friday on September 9th. Students and staff are asked to wear their Lemira T-shirts or the colors "Blue and White" to represent their Lemira pride!! Spirit Fridays will occur the second Friday of each month.
- 2nd Fridays (Spirit Fridays )- Lemira T-shirts or "Blue and White" colors
- 4th Fridays (Creating College and Career Ready Leaders, the AVID Way) - Wear your favorite college T-shirt

9. Counselor's Corner: Beat the Morning Rush
A calm and happy school morning begins the night before. Go to bed knowing everything’s in order with these tips.
Check the weather forecast and help your child choose clothes, coats, and shoes.
Have them place their backpack by the door. Be sure they have put in homework, notes, and permission slips.
Test your child for tomorrow’s quiz one last time.
10. March of Dimes Fundraiser: Lemira is currently participating in the March of Dimes Fundraiser.
If you would like to contribute a donation, please visit our site:
Team Captain: Ms. Kwitenia Holland
11. Reading Interventionist Corner:
A child’s success as a reader begins as early as his or her infant stage. Reading, and a love for reading, begins at home. This year I will be sharing tips for parents and guardians to help foster their child reading development.
Tip 1: Talk to your child about the books he or she likes to read. It's always good for children to see that you are interested in what they enjoy, especially when it comes to reading.
Book of the Month: "The Day You Begin" by Jacqueline Woodson.
12. Communication Folders: Communication folders are sent home daily. Please check each day and return.
As always, we look forward to our continued partnership! Together, we will make this the best year ever!
