Dear Thacher Families:

Wow....what a mean trick mother nature played on us today! Thankfully, we'll be back to seasonal temperatures by the end of the weekend.

We're excited to welcome back our Scholastic Book Fair which classes will be visiting next week. If your child is unsure which day his/her class is attending, please reach out to their teacher via Rooms or email.

This Week in Music

This week in music, the students have been hard at work. Our insights students have made tremendous progress with communicating and/ or practicing vocalizations, taking turns, identifying parts of the body, playing together and more! Kindergarteners and the first grade have been working on their singing voices, while moving to music. We also read a story about the different volume levels in music and have begun using songs to learn about short and long vowel sounds! Second-graders have been learning about sea shanties, an old but very fun form of music sung by sailors and pirates! We have been nailing our instrumental goals by playing xylophone games.

The third-grade and fourth-grade students have similarly put a lot of effort into their recorder playing. Our recorder unit uses a system where students earn different colored strings depending on how many songs they can play—we just started our color-coded system this week and I can’t believe how many red strings I have given out already! Finally, fourth-grade welcomed a special guest in chorus on Wednesday: our former music teacher and current department chair, Mrs. Torres, came down to talk about all of the wonderful music options for incoming middle-school students. Fourth-grade parents and guardians, make sure to talk to your child about the different options. The school sent out an email to all families and students have been discussing these options and watching some videos to learn more about band and chorus. I can’t wait to see how full the middle school band and chorus classes are next year!

Check out our second graders in action!

Musically yours,

Mr. Chippo
