Defenders - Defining Excellence Everyday
April 28, 2024
Notes from our Principal
Hello Driscoll community,
We hope you enjoyed the three-day weekend as well as the Spring Showers we received this weekend. It is hard to believe, but this week we will welcome the month of May, the final month of this school year. There continue to be many events and upcoming details happening to close out this school year. Attendance is key to help students stay on top of the many details. We continue to encourage students to complete make-up work when they are absent and communicate with teachers about any missing assignments.
Thank you to all who donated items for our Teen Leadership and SOS drive for materials to support several planned community service projects. Our students in these groups have been busy making baby hats and getting items ready for the other service projects. There are a few pictures included below showing some of the hats already made. There are more after school work sessions planned for this week as the groups continue their efforts of giving back.
Our 7th grade Field Day is planned for May 23 and Ms. Jocz, our 7th grade team leader, is looking for parental volunteers to assist with the field day events. There is a graphic below with more details or you can email kjocz@neisd.net if you have additional questions regarding the 7th grade field day. Donations are also being accepted for this event. Our 8th grade End of Year Party will be Friday, May 24, and more details along with requests for volunteers will be included in next week's Driscoll News.
We are already working on scheduling details for next year using the student course requests as the basis for staffing and scheduling of classes. Please be sure to communicate with our counselors if your students change their minds about course selections for next year. Adjustments to selections need to be made by the last day of school, May 31, in order to ensure that our schedule is the best it can be to meet our students' needs.
Please review the many details included in this week's Driscoll News. If you have specific questions, please reach out so we can assist with those items. We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events.

Save the Date - May 16 - Driscoll's Art Night from 5 - 7 PM
Art Students Have Been Working on a New Hallway Mural
Mr. Morales and several of his art students have been working on a mural with native Texas flowers, Monarch butterflies, Bees, and Hummingbirds including one of Driscoll's core values of Respect integrated into the design. It is looking great and taking shape. Additional murals are planned and even one that the community can help add to during our May 16 Art Night. We hope you make plans to attend that upcoming event.

Immunization Information
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL CURRENT SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS
In accordance with Texas immunization requirements, current 6th grade students who will be in 7th grade for the 2024-2025 school year, need the following immunizations to start school:
Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis containing vaccine (required)
- One booster dose if at least 5 years have passed since the last tetanus containing vaccine was received.
Meningococcal vaccine (required)
- One dose of meningococcal vaccine.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine (recommended)
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all 11–12- year-old boys and girls receive 2 doses of the HPV vaccine to protect against HPV associated cancers.
Students must have a complete immunization record on file with the school nurse on or before the first day of school. Students with incomplete immunization records will not be issued a schedule or allowed to attend classes. Please submit an updated immunization record, including immunizations received over the summer, to the school nurse as soon as possible.
Make an appointment with your physician now to avoid the rush this summer!
If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Harrison at (210) 356-3203. Once your student receives their vaccines, please provide a copy to the school nurse. You may drop it off in person or email the record to sharri9@neisd.net . Vaccine records must include the student’s name and date of birth. For questions during the summer hours, contact Health Services at (210) 356-9244.
Attendance is Key to Success!
Your child’s attendance is key to your child’s learning and success. Our campus attendance goal is 96%. Our attendance last week was 94.4% attendance. If your student is absent, please send your student back to school with a note and continue to encourage your child to be on time to every class. Thank you, Defender parents for partnering with us by making sure your child is at school every day.
