The Dr.'s Note
I had the opportunity to help serve our annual district-wide Thanksgiving meal at Crook County High School this week. It was a joy to stand alongside our incredible team of nutrition staff, custodians, bus drivers, instructional assistants, teachers, principals, and directors. Everybody pitched in. The students raved about the meal, and the pumpkin pie was a hit! The meal also included turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, fruit salad, and rolls. Thanks to our Nutrition Services Manager, Denny Bauldree, for organizing and planning the meal. Did you know Denny used to manage Panera Bread restaurants? We are so grateful to have his experience on our team.
I want to share one of my favorite quotes as we enter Thanksgiving Break. "You can't lift a thousand pounds all at once. Yet, you can easily lift one pound a thousand times. Tiny, repeated efforts will get you there." Let's take this time of year to lift each other up, help our friends and neighbors, and be grateful for all the small things in life. It's a true honor to serve Crook County School District and be part of this wonderful community.
With thanks,
Dr. Sara Johnson.
Crook County FFA Chapter
Congratulations to our Beginning and Advanced Ag Sales Teams for placing Second at our Central Oregon District CDE! Gabby Wood was the high individual member from the Customer Relations portion of the event. Four students had the opportunity to compete at the Oregon FFA State Ag Sales Career Development Event over the weekend. We are now waiting for results!

Wage Increase Makes CCSD a Competitive Choice
The Crook County School Board recently approved a new contract for Classified Staff. This includes a wage increase for positions like bus drivers, custodians, nutrition services, and instructional assistants. Full and part-time jobs are available, and bus drivers are considered full-time when working 30 hours a week. You'll also enjoy great retirement and health insurance benefits, paid holidays, and competitive wages with school districts in Central Oregon. It's also a great option for parents and guardians looking for job opportunities that align with their children's school schedules.
Please get in touch with our HR Department or apply online if interested.
Apply for the Budget Committee!
Crook County School District seeks community volunteers to help shape the next budget. There are two vacant positions now open on the budget committee. It's an excellent opportunity for parents and community members to get involved and serve their local schools by reviewing our budget, providing feedback, and making recommendations.

The Science of Baking Brings Stories to Life
"I do so like green eggs and ham. Thank you. Thank you, Sam-I-Am."
Mrs. Fischer’s 1st-grade students at Crooked River Elementary enjoyed a special treat after finishing their 1st-trimester reading unit with the iconic Dr. Suess book Green Eggs & Ham. They made the short walk over to Crook County Middle School and joined Ms. Neuhaus’s Science of Baking class to make green eggs! The 6th graders showed the younger students how to crack and mix the eggs, add food coloring, and make scrambled eggs using electric burners. A few students couldn't stomach the idea of green food (imagine that!) 😄, but what an excellent opportunity to make learning hands-on and fun by combining science and reading.
Art Through Light & Shadows
Have you ever heard of chiaroscuro?
Students in Mrs. Struck's Intro to Art class at CCHS have been learning about the technique. The word chiaroscuro is Italian for light and shadow. It's one of the classic techniques used in the works of artists like Rembrandt, da Vinci, and Caravaggio. It refers to the use of light and shadow to create the illusion of light from a specific source shining on the figures and objects in the painting.
