Lansing Elementary Weekly Update
Newsletter for the Lansing Elementary School Family
April 2 2020
This week our staff launched our continuous learning plan. By now, your family should have been contacted by either their grade-level teacher or support staff. Our staff has left messages for some families but have not yet been able to make contact. We understand that each family has unique challenges and is very busy during these trying times; however, if you would email your teacher or give them a call, we would love to hear from your family and to touch base to see if there is anything the school can do to support you at this time.
Our teachers have been working extremely hard to collaborate together to bring students the materials offered on the learning boards and related resources of our continuous learning plan. We hope that your child finds them engaging and fun. Please know that teachers have identified the essential learning targets to help your child maintain those essential grade-level skills they have worked so hard on this school-year. Our goal is to help each child be prepared for the next level of learning when we return to school.
However, our main priority is to foster positive school-home relationships, connections with your student, their peers, and their families and to offer support through these trying times. We love connecting with our kids and are here to help any way we can.
The Lansing School District’s continuous learning plan was featured as a resource in the Greenbush Education Service Center and the Kansas State Department of Education. This is a real testament to the amazing staff and their talents that contributed to the development and implementation of this continuous learning plan.
Never under-estimate the power of encouragement and a positive word to your teachers. Our staff cares deeply about all of our students and they would love to hear from you family!
We’re all in this together!

Parent Input for Class Placement for the 2020-2021 school year
All forms due by April 10, 2020-No forms will be accepted after this date
Please access the Google Form below to provide input for your child's class placement for the 2020-2021 school year. We ask that your refrain from naming or picking a specific teacher for your child, but instead offer qualities of the teacher that will best be suited to your child's personality and learning style. Requests for specific teachers, by name, cannot be accepted.
A tremendous amount of time and effort will go into the planning and formation of class placement by teams of both classroom teachers and support personnel. Your input will be considered along with the input of staff members. We will do our best to consider the unique needs, personality traits and learning style of every student. Thank you for taking the time to provide input for your child's class placement for the 2020-2021 school year!

Grading & Assessment
Lansing Elementary Continuous Learning Plan-Grading & Assessment Information
Grading and assessment with the continuous learning plan will be based on standards-based grading. Staff has been asked to identify and provide opportunities for critical learning standards at each grade level. Based upon the identified critical standards, our staff has been asked to provide meaningful and appropriate content for students to engage in at home.
Therefore, there will be no formal grades given during 4th quarter. Teachers will offer students feedback on their completed work so their learning can be monitored.
The focus of the continuous learning plan is on student learning. Grades are one type of feedback; teachers will continue to offer valuable feedback just in a different way. Because the lessons will be scaled down to meet the recommendations of the continuous learning plan task force to include only the most essential content, it is our hope that this puts our students in the best possible position when returning to school. Students, their families, and teachers will focus on progress and any feedback offered by the teacher. Teachers will offer feedback in a variety of ways. Check in with our teacher to see what your child can expect.
There are no state assessments for the 2019-2020 school year.
Supply PIck Up
Saturday, April 4, 2020 8 am to 2 pm at Lansing Elementary School
If you were not able to pick up your child's classroom consumable curriculum materials for 2nd or 3rd grade OR if you have requested technology or a packet (for those without Internet access) in grades K-3 you will have another opportunity to pick up these supplies.
This will include families that requested IPADS because they do not have a technology resource at home. It will also include the remaining packet of instructional materials for students that do not have Internet access. Also, if you picked up an IPAD and it is not working properly, this would be your opportunity to exchange this IPAD for a different one.
Pick Up Location: Drive in the bus lane in the front of the building. Please stay in your car and someone will bring our child’s supplies.
If you are requesting technology based upon need, please use the link below so that our technology team can help. All personal belongings will be returned at a later date.
Thank for your patience and grace as we work to make this process as user-friendly as possible. Please understand that we are limited by only 10 or less staff members to assist with the process due to current CDC guidelines. We appreciate your cooperation with our staff as we work together to implement our continuous learning plan. We are all in this together!
