April Teacher Feature- Mr. McFarland
Teaching began for Mr. McFarland here at O'Connor where he completed his student teaching. Following student teaching, Mr. McFarland worked as an Ag teacher in Jacksonville, Texas for three years and then made his way here back to Helotes and has served as an ag teacher at O'Connor ever since. Currently, Mr. McFarland is our Ag Mechanics teacher and you can find him out in the "Q" shop working with our upper-level Ag Mech students.
When Mr. McFarland is not on campus in the shop he enjoys spending time with his wife Catilin and their 3 children. Mr. Mcfarland loves being a Dad, building stuff, being outside, and listening to live music. Something you may not know about him is that he LOVES playing the drums and listening to heavy metal music. When I asked Mr. McFarland about his infamous beard he shared that it began due to sleep deprivation caused by his newborn child. He then stated the pediatrician told him that he should not shave it for two reasons: 1) sun protection and 2) if he does shave it his baby may not recognize him. The beard has remained since Mr. McFarland's firstborn child for these reasons.
