The Timucua Tribe

History of the Tribe
Spanish settlers wanted to claim the land.Another Spanish explorer led a small army killing hundreds of Timucua.They live in Florida .The first tribe was in the 14 and 1500s. They also had many celebrations.
Shelter of the Tribe
They drove poles into the ground to build simple houses.They lived in huts.They covered their houses with palm leaves by nearby forests.Woven vines were their walls.They put clay in the walls.
Clothing of the Tribe
They dressed in animal skins ,woven cloth,and moss.They wore beads and pearls.Inflated fish bladders were special Timucua ear ornaments.The Timucua men wear loin cloth made of leather.
Food of the Tribe
They ate rabbit,turkey,deer,fish,and bear.They also grew corn,melons,beans,and squash.The woman also collected fruits,palm berries,acorns,and nuts.The men would hunt game including alligators,manatees,and maybe even whales.
Traditions of the tribe
They had many ceremonies.Every ceremony has a different meaning.They celebrated planting,harvesting,and fishing and hunting trips.When someone died they built a mound sand or oyster shells over the body.
Culture of the Tribe today
They no longer exist.They have been gone since 1767.The tribe got diseases like small pox and plague.They were sometimes killed by French and Spanish.
