Marlette Elementary News

December 2020

From the Principal's Desk

Wow! Can you believe we've already made it to December? This year has been far from usual, but we do want to keep some of our holiday magic alive. Rodney Raider, the MES elf on a shelf, has returned for some fun and scouting for Santa. Be sure to ask your child where Rodney was at every day. As of today, Monday, December 7, there are only eighteen sleeps until Christmas! Please pay extra close attention to your teacher's newsletter for important upcoming dates.

We will be back for in-person instruction Wednesday, December 9. We thank you all for working with us and being our partners as we navigate a fully virtual pause for a week and a half.

Please make sure you call the office and notify Mrs. Redman by Friday, December 11, if you would like to enroll or re-enroll your child for Marlette Community Virtual School for the second semester. 989-635-7427

Our Christmas vacation begins at 3:00 on Tuesday, December 22. We return in 2021 on Monday, January 4.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

3 Question Family Survey

We've had about 30 responses, but would love to hear from everyone.

From the School Social Worker

As the holiday season rolls around again this year, I continue to be amazed by the generosity of our community to reach out and provide our students and families with extra support, especially during this year of uncertainty. With support of Marlette Knights of Columbus, MHS Class of 2008, and some anonymous donors, we were able to provide eleven full meals to local families for Thanksgiving. Other families have reached out to offer donations or the willingness to adopt families for the holiday season as well. We also continue to coordinate with Toys For Tots and are collecting new and unwrapped items here at the school. All these acts of kindness and selflessness do not go unnoticed and we are truly blessed to have such strong community support. If you are interested in donating /adopting a family or if your family could use some additional support this holiday season, please contact me at 989.635.7425 ext. 44924.

The Giving Tree

Our Giving Tree is up in our lobby and we have started receiving gifts to help the Marlette Toys for Tots program. If you would like to donate a new, unwrapped toy, please drop it off in the box by the office during normal school hours. We appreciate your help with making sure every child has a special Christmas this year.

Mornings at MES

This is a reminder that our doors do not open until 8:00. We have very limited supervision until the doors open and ask that you do not drop children off early, especially now that the weather is getting colder. If you have to drop off early and need latchkey services, contact Red Raider Care.

End of the Day

The end of the day is typically the busiest time in the office every day. All changes to our students' end of the day routines must be completed before 2:00. We know that emergencies do arise, but we expect all calls for any changes to be made before 2:00. If you really want to help Mrs. Redman, make sure your child knows where they are going after school first thing in the morning and send them with a note if it is not their typical routine. Thank you!

Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast and Lunch Menus

Due to special funding from the USDA, all student meals are free through the end of the 2020-2021 school year.

However, if your family income should change, please complete a new free and reduced meal application. Families will begin the 2021-2022 school year with the meal status they ended the 2020-2021 school year with. This will remain in effect for 30 days or until a new form has been submitted. Forms are available in the school offices or online via Skyward.

If you have questions, please contact Tammy Major at 989-635-7425, ext. 44902.

School Calendar and Hours

The Annual School Calendars along with District information may be accessed online at Students are expected to be in class by 8:15 when the second bell rings and stay until the dismissal bell at 3:00. A pattern of late arrivals and/or early checkouts is considered truancy.

The importance of sleep

It seems like the problem lately is lack of activity for you and your family, but did you know that kids aged 6-12 need nine to twelve hours of sleep? Adults typically require seven to nine hours! We don't know about you, but we think that making a good night's sleep a priority can sometimes be hard to do. It is important to make sleep a priority for every member of your family, though, as lack of it can also profoundly inhibit immune systems, and we certainly want our immune systems at their best right now.

Outdoor Recess

We will continue to have outdoor recess until the temperature is 0 or lower with the wind chill. Keep an eye on the weather reports and make sure students have proper gear. If you need help with a coat, hat, gloves, etc... let Ms. Raeann know and we will do our best to make sure your child is properly outfitted for winter.

School Closing Information

If school is cancelled, we will flood the airwaves and internet with that information. Please do not contact the school. We will send information via:
  • WMIC-WTGV (Sandusky 97.7 & 92.5 FM)
  • Channels 2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 25, 66.
  • Marlette Community Schools App available for Apple and Android

We will likely have some fun snow day challenges, so please make sure you follow us on social media!

If you don't receive an all-call on a snow day, it's because we don't have the correct number in Skyward. Be sure your information is up to date.
