H.E.L.P. & Look.Listen.Link. Suicide Prevention Curriculum

Big image

Lewisville ISD will utilize a research-based classroom curriculum to increase awareness of teen depression and anxiety among middle school and high school students. Our mission is to empower students to comfortably and confidently seek help for friends or themselves who may be depressed or suicidal.

Lewisville ISD envisions a district where our students are nurtured and supported, where stakeholders are aware of risk factors of suicide, and know how to actively seek help from accessible, effective school and community resources.

House Bill 1386, Early Mental Health Intervention and Prevention of Youth Suicide, mandates that all middle school and high school campuses provide a comprehensive suicide prevention program for implementation in all secondary public schools. Best practices indicate that a comprehensive program should include a student awareness component that includes the following:

· Information about depression

· How to recognize signs in self or a friend

· How to seek help for self or a friend

LISD secondary campuses will utilize the LOOK.LISTEN.LINK or H.E.L.P. curriculum.
