Getting Started with Sora and OverDrive for Administrators

RILINK is partnering with OverDrive to present two Zoom sessions on December 8 for district administrators. The first session is at 10:00 AM; the second, at 3:00 PM. An announcement about these sessions has been sent to Superintendents and Curriculum Directors.

Registration for the sessions is open.

Meeting information will be shared to the RILINK list on December 7 as well. Please share it with your administrators and curriculum leaders.

New to OverDrive or want to change your settings?

We are recommending that our member libraries that are members of the OverDrive group NOT include the OverDrive titles in Destiny, but rather have a link in Destiny Discover to go to the SORA site. To change your library's current setup contact Devin Kelly, our Account Executive at OverDrive.

If you make the decision not to include the OverDrive titles in your catalog, use the RILINK Help Request Form to let us know about the change as well. We will update the settings for your Destiny site so that the titles will not get re-added and delete them from your catalog.

Need Barcodes?

The form to order barcode labels is now open at https://guides.rilink.org/beyond_help/orderlabels. Labels cost $35 for a roll of 1000 labels. RILINK must have a minimum of 8 rolls to place an order.

Upcoming Professional Learning Sessions

RILINK currently plans to offer two sessions on the January 25 statewide professional development day.
  • The New RI School Library Curriculum Guide: Inspirations from the Field

  • Get Started With Sora

Registration will be available in early January.

Please contact Sharon if you have a topic related to RILINK resources you would like offered on this day.

Please remember an individual librarian or a group of librarians can request professional learning sessions by clicking on Request Virtual Professional Learning Session on the Professional Learning Resources guide.

New BookLynx Titles Coming Soon!

New titles have been ordered for BookLynx. An email will be sent to the list as soon as they are available.

Find directions for adding eBooks and digital audio books to your collection at https://tinyurl.com/ycdylnrv. When adding new eBooks and audio books to your collection, sort by date added in descending order to see the newest titles. As always, Donna Good looks forward to receiving your requests and recommendations. Just fill out the form at https://rilink.libwizard.com/f/eBookrequest.

RILINK Help Request Form & Reply-All

Please use Reply-All when responding to Help Request answers. It is important all staff members see the resolutions to questions or follow up questions. Using the RILINK Help Request Form to submit questions means the staff all receive it and ensures a more efficient response while creating a database for staff to refer to as well when a question comes up again.

You can access the link on the RILINK website by clicking on RILINK Help Request or by clicking on the orange Request Help button on the right-hand side of the screen.

Thank you!

Destiny Discover Updates

Follett recently made two updates to Destiny Discover.

  1. Lightbox titles, if a library has purchased them, may now be added to the custom carousel.

  • Ability to browse eBooks and Audiobooks via the Library page
  • Ability to view checkouts and recently read items reorganized under the My Stuff page
  • Material type icons added to the front of cover images
