We need your help!
Nominations are now being accepted for the Valley High School Hall of Honor for 2023! The nomination period lasts through Friday, Oct. 28, 2022.
We need your help gathering nominees! Valley High School staff, retirees, alumni, and volunteers are all eligible for this honor.
A nomination is a wonderful way to honor those who have been — and continue to be! — instrumental to the West Des Moines Community Schools' mission. Help us recognize our outstanding mentors, educators, coaches, activities sponsors, and community leaders with a Hall of Honor nomination!

How to Nominate Someone to the Valley High School Hall of Honor
Detailed Nomination Criteria and FAQs
Alumni Criteria
- Must be an alumnus of Valley High School who, through various endeavors, is a positive role model for the student body and has been graduated from Valley High School for 10 years or more. The award may be given posthumously.
- Must have contributed to his or her community in an exemplary manner by demonstrating leadership, character, and service to their local community and/or profession.
- Must have achieved outstanding success in Academics, Arts, Activities, or Athletics.
- Must be a role model that current and future generations of West Des Moines Community Schools students can emulate.
Valley High School Staff Criteria
- Must have been a staff member at Valley High School for 5 years or more. The award may be given posthumously.
- Must be recognized as being a positive role model and person of character and have demonstrated leadership.
- Must have been recognized as being a person of uncommon dedication, going beyond the call of duty to assist students, staff, and/or parents.
- Current, former, and retired staff are eligible.
Volunteer Criteria
- Must be a patron/benefactor/community leader of the West Des Moines Community Schools or the West Des Moines community and have contributed to Valley High School in an exemplary manner. The award may be given posthumously.
- Must demonstrate leadership, character, and service to their local community and be a positive role model and person of character for community members and West Des Moines Community Schools students to emulate.
- Must achieve outstanding success in business, athletics, education, the arts, humanitarian efforts, community service, or other endeavors.
Can current Valley employees be nominated?
Yes. Current Valley employees can be nominated for any of the three categories.
How long ago do alumni need to have graduated from Valley to be eligible for the alumni award?
10 years.
How long do staff need to work at Valley to be eligible for the staff award?
At least five years.
If I nominate someone this year and they don't receive an award, does my nomination carry over?
No. You will need to resubmit nominations each year.
Save the Date! 2023 Hall of Honor Ceremony and Reception
Valley High School cordially invites you to the Valley High School Hall of Honor 2023 ceremony in the Staplin Performing Arts Center. A dessert reception will follow the ceremony. No RSVP is necessary.

The Valley High School Hall of Honor was established to recognize outstanding alumni, educators, and community leaders who, through achievements, endeavors, leadership, and character, are positive role models for the student body of the West Des Moines Community Schools.
