From the Principal .... CATHOLIC Education
Memories of Catholic education will remain with me for the remainder of my life. And they are wonderful memories, ones that are shared and brought back to memory when one encounters others who shared the same advantage. With such a gift, it is only natural that you hope others might also share it. It is a very personal and strong reason for my belief in Catholic education.
I laugh to remember how in first grade Sister Grace made us slide over to make room for our guardian angel. I don't slide over anymore. But if I could tell someone only one bit of wisdom, I would tell them that they indeed have an angel of their own, not an imaginary playmate, but a companion, who reminds them of God's love and mercy.

SPECIAL DONATION REQUEST - Thank you already for your overwhelming support!
By now, many of you have heard of the tragic accident that occurred last week involving a 2nd grade student from Maple Glen Elementary School. Jenna Demar and her father were struck by a vehicle last Monday night as they were walking home on Susquehanna Road. Tragically, Jenna Demar passed away from her injuries on Tuesday, October 18th.
There is a Go Fund Me account already set up, which has raised over $77,600 for the family. Our Lady of Mercy would like to give Jenna's family a lasting memorial to their beautiful daughter. An OLM mom suggested purchasing a bench to be placed in one of the parks in Upper Dublin (Mondauk Water, Verans Memorial, Klosterman Park). We thought that would be a lovely tribute and we are proceeding with the purchase of the bench and a plaque.
Next Monday, October 31st, OLM is celebrating Halloween by allowing students to accessorize their uniforms with orange and black Halloween t-shirts, socks, etc. To help pay for the bench ($1,000), we are asking for a $1 (or more) donation. We will keep everyone updated on the site chosen and the progress of the installation. Thank you for you support and Mercy.

Virtue of the Month: SERVICE
Our virtue of the month of November is Service
"Do not shut yourselves in your small world, but be open to others, especially to the poorest and neediest, to work to improve the world in which we live. Be men and women for others, real champions in the service of others." ~ Pope Francis
For Christians, service is not something to be tacked onto our schedules if we can spare the time. It is the heart of the Christian life. Jesus came "to serve" and "to give"—and those two verbs should define your life on earth, too. Serving and giving sum up God's purpose for your life. Mother Teresa once said, "Holy living consists in doing God's work with a smile."
Students will be taught to begin to shift their focus from "Who's going to meet my needs?" to "Whose needs can I meet?"
We pray to Saint Catherine LaBoure to help us to serve others.
Students will be recognized at the School Liturgy on Thursday, December 8th.

Volunteer for Lunch Duty at OLM!
Two parent volunteers must be on-duty in the school yard - before the playground is open. This ensures the safety of ALL. Our active volunteer program not only provides valuable hands-on assistance through the school, but also benefits the children by reinforcing ties between the children’s individual homes as well as the community at large, and the school. The Lunch/Recess Duty Volunteer program is a great way to volunteer and become involved at the school.
