What is Mrs. Johnson reading?
Cultivating Genius: An Equity Framework for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy
This teaching and learning model brings African American literary societies into context to present when teaching students of color and students who are continually marginalized with the use of oppressive teaching strategies.
Genesis Begins Again
This deeply sensitive and powerful debut novel tells the story of a thirteen-year-old who must overcome internalized racism and a verbally abusive family to finally learn to love herself.
Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt
This is a re-read. This book I am reading as an audiobook with my son, Ian. This book is about a young girl who struggles with a secret that she wishes no one to find out about in school. This secret has kept Ally from having friends or anyone outside of her family from getting close to her.
