Monday Morning Bearcub Brief
Volume CXVIII--11 November 2019
"Every CUB stepping up, reaching out, moving forward!"
Kleb Kudos
Congratulations to the following students whose team made finalist in the Klein ISD Innovation Challenge “Project Lifeline” : Danielle Anchondo ( 8th ), Allen Blanchard (6th ), Alex Herrara (8th), and Salvador Pedroza(7th).
Their team “ Calm, Cool, and Cold Medicine” had the idea of using the combination of a medical backpack with the use of a “hover board” to get medicine to those hard to reach places. Countless hours were spent before school and during our Bearcub den discussing ( sometimes debating) ideas. The members of this group did not know each other prior to the challenge, but they have forged a friendship throughout the process. Their coach, Ms. Blanchard, shares an excerpt from the student’s application.
How does our solution meet the needs of the customer?
“Easy, it’s a backpack. Everyone knows how to use a backpack, so that’s how it's convenient and heavy duty.
Of 13.6x4.3 bottles of medication, we can fit 51 bottles of that sized medicine bottles. Backpack will meet the needs by being portable and not needing to be on the road but can hover all over the place to get to its destination to meet the needs of the customer. Our kerosene tank on the hover board will hold 5 gallons, and one gallon holds it in the air for 20 hours, sooo, yeah. You can do the math. (100 hours of life!)”
The team now patiently waits for the next step, “Pitch Day” on Nov 15th .
Ms. Blanchard is very proud of all 7 teams who visited with field experts on the Day of Design .
“ What a valuable experience” , Ms. Blanchard explains “the Innovation Coordinators did an excellent job recruiting experts from different fields of study. The kids were so excited to talk about their ideas. This is just one of the many programs that Klein organizes to push our educational experience to the next level.”
She would also like to thank the teachers who volunteered to be an Innovation coach, Ms. Kurihara, Mr. Smart, Mr. Trent, Ms. Layton, Mr. Hebert, and Ms. Mallet.
Huggins Highlights
Parents and teachers, don't forget to vote for Kleb Intermediate in the National Red Ribbon Week Photo contest here! Want more information about the contest, check it out here on their website. You can vote once per day per IP address, so feel free to vote every day this week! Voting ends on Saturday, November 16th.
Teachers, don't forget, the second cycle of our FLE challenge needs to be completed by the end of next week (which also means we're only two weeks away from Thanksgiving Break, woohoo!!!). Make sure to let the PL team know when you are trying your second personalized learning lesson using kleb.info/TryFLE (this is the same form as before). Teachers on the beginner pathway need to visit one of our teachers on the advanced pathway. If you are on the intermediate pathway, Ms. Sharp and I will schedule someone to come give you feedback on your second time with the same personalized learning model from October.
The November online Google Roadmap and Stepping Up to PL classes are still underway and will continue to run until November 18. Teachers who are interested can Register in Eduphoria. Questions? See Ms. Sharp for more details!
Parent Reminder--Dismissal Procedures
Car Riders
Car rider parents will turn on Lyons School Road from either Louetta Road or Stuebner-Airline. Parents will enter at the north entrance to the Klein High School student parking lot. Look for the sign. Parents will then form two lanes along the curb, up until the sign indicating the stopping point. When your student arrives, a staff member will direct you to exit past the band and to the right so that you can exit through the south exit of the parking lot. If your student will not be immediately ready to be picked up after school, parents will need to park in one of the parking spots to wait for their child. If you do park in a parking spot to wait for your child, use extreme caution when backing out of the parking space. Students have been instructed to cross to the Klein High parking lot at the cross walk with an employee. See the image below for an aerial view.
As a reminder, there is no afternoon pickup at the front of the school due to the potential safety issue as traffic backs up onto Louetta. Thank you again for understanding our need to keep our Bearcubs safe.
Bus Riders
The first round of buses will be dismissed promptly at 4:25 after a last call for those buses has been made in the cafeteria. Once the first bus begins to roll, for student safety, no student will be allowed to enter the bus lot or get on a bus. After the first bus has started to depart, there is no way to communicate with the driver and it is unsafe for students to be in the bus lot. After the first round of buses has been dismissed, the second round of buses will be called as they arrive and will depart as soon as they have been loaded.
Walkers
We are still looking for WATCH D.O.G.S.!® This is an innovative program focusing on education and safety in schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures for a two-fold purpose:
1. To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, male guardians and uncles are asked to spend at least one day at their student’s school volunteering. They will support the school through:
monitoring the school property, working one-on-one or in small groups, reading, helping with work, listening ears, or whatever else needs to be done to PLANT SEEDS OF SUCCESS in the lives of the students.
