Volunteers Needed for Friendship Parties!
Valentine's Day is this Wednesday, and we're looking for volunteers to help make our friendship celebrations extra special. If you're available to lend a hand by picking up the approved snack, suggesting activity ideas, or helping out the day of the parties, sign up HERE! Please confirm that you have not signed up for more than one classroom. Volunteers will support the classroom they signed up for, for the length of the party. Thank you!
*Please note that no additional food, snacks or treats will be accepted for friendship parties. One snack will be provided for all students that meet the allergy and dietary needs of all students. We appreciate your support and understanding!
Grade 3-5 IAR/ISA Preparation Begins
Beginning next week, we'll begin preparing Grade 3-5 students for IAR and ISA testing. These state assessments measure students' proficiency in science (grade 5 only), reading, writing, and math. The assessments provide valuable data for our school, enabling us to identify areas of strength and areas needing improvement. In the coming weeks we'll explore test taking strategies and features of the test. Our primary focus will be fostering a "success mindset" and we would love to have your help with this! We would like for each students' family to submit a note of encouragement for your student. These notes will be delivered the morning of testing, reminding our students of your unwavering support and belief in their abilities and success! Submit your note Here.
Please continue reading for other important updates, including the 5Essentials Survey.
Have a wonderful weekend, Lions! See you Thursday for Open House! Thank you for being a part of our Pride!
As a member of the Longwood community, you have an important opportunity to share your feedback and thoughts on our school's effectiveness in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This 15 minute survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and growth in standardized test scores.
The survey is open now until March 29, 2024. Please complete the survey today! We need at least 20% parent/guardian participation!
To take the survey, please visit http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/ and select begin. We greatly appreciate your participation and helping to provide key insights for improvement at your child's school!
Hill Middle School Volunteers
On Wednesday we welcomed students from Hill Middle School for Read Across America Day. We enjoyed reading with them and hosting many former Longwood Lions! Thank you, Ms. Kouri for coordinating this fun opportunity!
Friendship Party Volunteers Needed!
Grade 3-4-5 State Testing
Grade 3-4-5 Families,
During the Month of March your student will take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) for ELA and Math. Students in grade 5 will also take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA).
In the coming weeks, we'll be preparing as a school community.
Here are some ways you can help!
- Ensure your child arrives at school on time each day. Testing will begin promptly after arrival.
- Encourage your child to eat breakfast at home or at school.
- Continue to practice a bedtime routine to get a good night's rest.
- Cheer your child on! They can and will be successful!
We have a secret mission for families to create a surprise for your child!
Our goal during testing is for every student to have a note of encouragement waiting for them on their desk before beginning their IAR test. Words from the people who mean the most to them - their family and friends! Please click the link to submit an encouraging note for your student. Messages will be printed on stationary paper and delivered to your student our second morning of testing. Submit your note HERE
We appreciate your partnership in making your student's testing experience a positive and successful one!
