The Gompers GATOR Bulletin 4/27/20
#thisiswhywedothis..#180daysofwhy...#GATORNATION
#Gatornation is #1
Dear Gompers Families,
Distance learning will continue for the remainder of the school year, with few, if any changes to the format we have been following. It is heartbreaking to me that I won't get to finish the year in person with Gomper Gators and all of of our traditional end of the year activities/ceremonies.
I encourage students to connect with their classmates for "morning meetings" twice a week and to use Google Classroom to communicate on a daily basis. I continue to add "spirit activities and family challenges" that will hopefully help us to feel more connected. Please review the schedules that will be apart of our distance learning structures. These structures are intended to provide systematic times and accountability for learning expectations.
If you are still having technology challenges via a CHROMEBOOK device or internet service, please contact me.
I would like to thank everyone for all of the support, encouragement, and feedback. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further support you as we complete the year i
Stay well and safe!
Respectfully - Dr. Miller

Semester 2 and Grades - Grading Information from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for everything you are doing to support your child’s learning during school closures due to the coronavirus pandemic. Beginning Thursday, April 23, our school district’s Home Learning Opportunities will continue with modifications. Until now, these lessons have been ungraded. As of April 23, students will be responsible for assignments and participation. We know, however, that students are not simply “learning at home.” They are learning at home during difficult circumstances for themselves and their families. With the pandemic crisis in mind, we have adjusted our student grading measures accordingly as indicated in this one-page Expectations for Students document.
In summary:
Grading embraces a “do no harm” philosophy
Elementary students will not receive Achievement Reports (Report Cards) for the second semester
Students in grades 6 to 8 will receive Pass/Fail final grades.
Students in grades 9 to 12 will receive Credit/No Credit final grades.
Guidelines for the amount of daily learning vary by grade span
Transitional kindergarten (TK) through kindergarten; one to 1.5 hours
Grades 1 to 5; three hours
Grades 6 to 12; one hour per period each day (Odd/Even Blocks, alternating days), for a total of three to four hours
Teachers will provide remote learning by “synchronous” (students working or learning simultaneously) and/or “asynchronous” methods (students working or learning at different times, or at their own pace).
If you have questions, please contact your child’s school. View a list of alternate school phone numbers during school closures here.
We will continue to provide school closure updates at lbschools.net/coronavirus, along with learning materials and technical support at our Home Learning Opportunities website, also available at lbschools.net/HLO.
Our sincerest wish is that our students and families are remaining safe and healthy during this global health crisis.
With deep appreciation for your support,
Christopher J. Steinhauser - Superintendent of Schools
Students with IEP and related Services
Thank you for your patience as LBUSD was waiting for legal direction from the State Department of Education on how to proceed with students of IEPs and associated related services.
The district has received direction late Thursday evening and we will begin to develop timelines and protocols for supporting students with IEPs.
Communication will come directly from your child's case carrier/teacher ad or the DIS service providers this week. Please note, the services will look differently as we are still under the provision of social distancing.
If there are any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Frak (school counselor) or myself.

Music News from Ms. Lucio
Dear Gompers Students, Parents and Guardians,
Morey’s has opened up to our community to help with instrumental needs. If your violin or cello requires tuning, email or call the store first to schedule a time with them. You do not need to walk into the store, an associate will come to your car, please wear a mask when they come to your car. Supplies can also be purchased and the items will be delivered to your car. Please assist Morey’s and call or email them in advance so they can schedule a time for you. Morey’s is amazing for helping our community and our musicians, I am thankful to them for their support.
Stay safe and healthy,
Mrs. Lucio

Teacher Appreciation Week May 4 - 8, 2020
It has definitely been a year of amazing 5-week transformations for educators across the nation, the state, school district, and GOMPERS. I have been soooooo proud of their technology advancements that have supported our students now having quality "digital" learning experiences that are addressing grade-level standards. The teachers are working tirelessly across all grade levels to do what is in the best interest and right for kids and its time to show them our appreciation.
Next week is national teacher and Staff Appreciation week and I hope you will help me in acknowledging our teachers each day in some special way.
