The purpose of Serendipity Day is to provide learning experiences that promote critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration. Serendipity Day is an opportunity to embrace our love of learning and share it with the community. This year our theme is Eura Brown Elementary is Full STEAM Ahead! STEAM is a cross-disciplinary educational approach that emphasizes Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.

Serendipity Day Activities

This event is made possible through outreach grants, community volunteers, family volunteers, and exhibitor/presenter volunteers across the state of Alabama. We are grateful for their time, service, and dedication to student learning.

McWane Science Center "Alabama Scientists"

From electricity to rocket science, medicine to metallurgy, Alabama has a rich scientific heritage! Students will get an exciting introduction to famous Alabama scientists and the amazing discoveries from our home state. This program includes interactive demonstrations!

Opening Ceremony~ The Jacksonville State University Steel Band

The Jacksonville State University Steel Band is led by Dr. Thomas McCutchen, percussion professor and Music Department Head. This talented group of students and faculty set the tone for the day with their lively, upbeat tunes that are enjoyed by all!

Closing Ceremony ~ Downtown Dance Conservatory

The Downtown Dance Conservatory is known for teaching, creating, performing, and promoting quality dance education to the North Alabama community. Artistic Director, Linze McRae, holds the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies of the Royal Academy of Dance, graduating in London, England. As our celebration of learning comes to a close, students will enjoy a classical ballet presentation.
