Professions in the Arts: Call for Volunteers
The Arts team is organizing a professions in the arts workshop for our students. Date TBD, but likely in February.
If you are an artist of any kind, please consider volunteering and sharing your talents with the students in our community.
The workshops will be on Zoom and last about 40 minutes. We want students to learn about as many profession opportunities in the arts as possible!
Library with Ms. Jaquess
Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, students in grades 3-5 focused their attention on the literary contributions and activism of award winning author/illustrator Duncan Tonatiuh. Duncan Tonatiuh grew up in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and graduated from Parsons School of Design and Eugene Lang College in New York City. His artwork is inspired by Pre-Columbian art. His aim is to create images and stories that honor the past, but that are relevant to people, specifically children, nowadays.

Dance with Ms. Sheehan
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean , Central America , and South America. King Arts Dance Classes have been exploring many Latin Dances. 7th Grade Team Orange presented dances from Cuba. Grades 3-5 have used the song Jaunito Cuando Baile as a warm-up to focus on body parts. For this photo each student chose a body part to highlight. Classes have also learned La Raspa and danced with a partner or a trio. Other classes have studied Flamenco dance from Spain.
Band with Mrs. Church
Eighth grade band students from King Arts and across District 65 joined up at ETHS October 27 for a District 65 and 202 Band Day event! They were able to hear ETHS performances, as well as join with the Wildkit Marching Band playing the ETHS cheer song to close out the evening. It was great to see and hear our current students, and also many King Arts alumni playing in band at the high school. Go future Wildkits!
Music with Mr. Smith and Ms. Weinman
In anticipation of Día de los Muertos (Nov 1 & 2), 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders have been learning and rehearsing a chant from Mexico - “Canto de las Calaveras” (Chant of the Skulls) in music class. Students have been learning the chant in Spanish and learning rhythms to accompany themselves on djembes (west African drums). Additionally, students are learning about influential 19th Century Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada, who created hundreds of lithograph prints of skeletons engaged in various activities.
