EDGEWOOD INSIDER
May 2019
Welcome Insiders!
Whether you're an alum, a business partner, or have yet to step foot in an Edgewood school, we are glad you're here. This monthly newsletter is for our community members and businesses whose partnerships help and guide us as we educate San Antonio's next workforce.
Message from the Superintendent
Our school year is quickly coming to end. May is our opportunity to highlight our Edgewood ISD graduates. This is an honorable and beautiful experience that we get to witness. The graduation experience is not only life changing, but also our way of honoring the trust parents have given us to prepare their children for college, career and military readiness.
As Superintendent, I take this trust very personally and I want to be able to look at each graduate and congratulate them for reaching their goals and for being a part of Edgewood Independent School District and our community.
Memorial Day Ceremony
On May 27, the Compadres for Scholarships put on their annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Edgewood Memorial in Veteran's Stadium. The attendees took time to remember the students and friends from the Class of 1967 who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War. They also celebrated the lives of six graduating seniors by awarding them academic scholarships. Attending community members included Mayor Ron Nirenberg, Councilman Greg Brockhouse, and many others.
2019 State of the District
Dr. Eduardo Hernández welcomed over 180 community members at the Edgewood Performing Arts Theatre on April 11, 2019. Guests were able to learn firsthand what's on the horizon for Edgewood Independent School District and why we are stronger than before.
Performances were given by our Mariachi band and Fine Arts students. Memorial High School Culinary Art students prepare and served a delicious three course lunch.
