Principal & PTA Chat!
Ms. Elizabeth (BHIS school counselor) and Ms. Andrea (Odessa Brown School MentelTherapist) will be joining the principal chat to discuss the following,
- What is the difference between the school counselor and the school-based therapist?
- What are some common challenges faced by elementary students?
- How can parents help with those challenges?
- Gather questions/topics of interest for future parent chats.
If you have any questions or concerns about your student’s emotional or social experiences at school, you can always connect with Ms. Elizabeth. The easiest way is to email esswarny@seattleschools.org in any language. You can also ask a staff person you feel comfortable with to help you with Ms. Elizabeth!

Spirit Wear Student Art Contest!
This year, some of our spirit wear will feature art from our very own Beacon Hill International School students. How exciting is that!? If your student would like to enter the contest to have their artwork displayed on our new spirit wear items, please have them create a piece of art that represents what they love about their school. The contest winners’ art will then be placed on some of our new spirit wear next year! Submissions for the art contest are due by January 5th. Please note, art submissions should be created using markers on a plain sheet of paper (no lines) and should be submitted to their teacher.
A Friendly Reminder!
This is a reminder that EDIBLE/FOOD birthday treats for students are not allowed in our building, due to allergies, food safety, etc. Families may give out small toys or non-edible items for the teacher to distribute at the end of school. Our top priority is to always provide the safest environment for each and every student. If you have any questions, please contact school admin.
School Electronic Devices
You may have noticed over the Thanksgiving holiday that your child either bought home a laptop or an iPad. The reason for this is in the event that there is a snow day, our students will be able to attend school remotely. So please make sure that your student takes care of these devices when they are at home. We also ask that whenever your child returns to school, they always have their iPad or laptop with them and fully charged.
Our Lost and Found
We are still in need of volunteers!
Food Bank Drivers: Delivery day is every Wednesday. We would need you to drive to Rainier Valley Food Bank to pick up food and deliver to BHIS families. Pick up can happen any time after 10:30am. Any amount you are able to deliver would be great! From one Wednesday a month to every week, we would appreciate any amount of time you could help. Contact Adam Kennedy at adam.kennedy@beaconhillpta.org
Morning Traffic Circle: We still need people to help put signs out, bring signs in, and serve as crossing guards. Signs go out between 7am and 7:15am and are bought back in at 7:55am. Crossing guard duty would be 7:25am to 8:00am. Even if you can help one day a week, that would be great! Please contact revalentine@seattleschools.org
Organizing Books: We have a teacher that is in need of a volunteer who can help organize and sort books in their classroom. This will be ongoing throughout the year. Please contact revalentine@seattleschools.org if you're interested in supporting a teacher.
FYI
Accepting New and Used Children's Clothing!
BHIS is excited to start excepting new and gently used clothing once again. In the past we always accepted your old children's clothing, however during the pandemic we paused this practice. We would love to start this back up again so that we can provide clothing for families in need, students who have accidents at school, get muddy or for new arriving families. If you would like to donate any items, please make sure they are not soiled or stained, no holes or any dirt. Shoes in all sizes are welcomed as well. Before bringing any items to our school please schedule a drop off time with Cindi Barco barcopao99@gmail.com !
NO SCHOOL!
The school building will be closed and only opened for Launch during winter break.
