Evening Street Weekly Update

October 15, 2021

Principal Message

Working in tandem with their families, children designed wonderful creations at the Cardboard Challenge Saturday! It was so much fun witnessing family collaboration and creativity permeate the gymnasium. Even our fifth graders still share memories of past Cardboard Challenge days. The best memory is the time they spent with a parent having fun creating. Get a glimpse of the innovation by watching the video below!

Cardboard Challenge 2021

Thanks to so many parents for attending Parent-Teacher conferences, in person and virtually. If your schedule did not allow for you to meet this past week, please reach out to your child's teacher to reserve a time. Our goal continues to be 100%; we have not yet reached that goal. Educating the children is truly a joint effort. The teachers are very appreciative of the collaborative relationship we share together in the journey to educate the children. We are also very grateful to the Evening Street PTA for providing breakfast, sweet and salty treats, and dinner this week.

Next week our third grade students will participate in the fall Third Grade Ohio Reading Test on Tuesday and Thursday. I am certain, even with COVID interruptions, our children will do very well. If you are the parent of a third grade student, please give them extra encouragement for Tuesday and Thursday's testing!

Our next event will be our Fall Harvest celebration on October 29th at 1:30 p.m. Costumes are appropriate; the children will parade outside. Parents are invited to observe the parade. Please look below for specific details.

Enjoy the long weekend,

Mary Rykowski

Playrooms for Cancer Patient Fundraiser

An Evening Street family started a Worthington-based, non profit to put family Playrooms in adult cancer hospitals, based on their cancer experience. The very first family playroom opened at Riverside Methodist Hospital in summer ‘21. (https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.dispatch.com/amp/7794161002)

They are hosting a family holiday event on Sunday, November 7th from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. Ticket information is below. With any luck, construction on the second playroom will begin after the event!

Have you joined the Evening Street PTA?

Make certain to join the PTA - membership is only $15.00 for the entire school year. There will be no paper directory this year, this site will be the only way to get parent names, email and phone number for play dates.

Fall Fun Approaching!

The children are looking forward to a Fall Harvest Party on October 29th.

Here are some need to know items for this school event:

  • We will attempt an outdoor parade, weather permitting, October 29th at 1:30 p.m. We invite parents to watch the parade which will begin at the art room and end at the front of the school. We ask spectators to space themselves.

  • Costumes are appropriate that have no weapons or blood!!! Teachers will let parents know if children may wear costumes all day or bring costumes to change into later in the day.

  • Food will not be consumed at the party.

  • Thanks to our room parents for partnering with teachers for party games!

  • Due to spacing of three feet-we are only able to accommodate two room parents.

Remember to RSVP for Veteran's Day Assembly

The third grade children will perform a concert for Veterans and family members on Thursday, November 11th at 9:15 a.m. Due to COVID, we will limit the number of participants in the gymnasium. If you know a veteran interested in attending, please feel free to invite them to attend. For our planning, we are asking for RSVP's. Classroom Gallery Volunteers Needed

The Classroom Gallery Program provides our children an opportunity to view and discuss reproductions of visual art masterworks. Classroom Gallery volunteers bring art reproductions into the classroom and lead a 15-20 minute discussion with the children. The discussion is then generally followed with a hands on activity to help children expand their knowledge of prominent artists. Classroom volunteers visit once a month. Classroom Gallery Guidebooks with lessons and information about the artists are provided. This year, Chandra Demick and Jen Taber are committee chairs for this wonderful program.

Safety Drill Follow Up

The children did an amazing job with the safety drill this week. Mrs. Golding compiled information for any post drill conversation you may want to have with your child.

How Would You Like to Substitute in Worthington???

Do you enjoy working with children?

Do you have at least a Bachelor’s level degree?

Would you like to make $150.00 to $165.00 per day working with students?

Worthington would love to have you as a Guest Teacher (substitute) in our district!

Worthington Teacher Substitutes are hired through the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio (ESCCO) via an online application system. You will need current BCI/FBI background checks (can be done in the Worthington HR office) and you will need to apply for a Substitute License through the Ohio Department of Education. Worthington personnel will assist you in this process to assure a smooth and timely activation with the ESCCO.

Worthington has opportunities for “Permanent Guest Teachers” (PGT’s) who are committed

to working Monday through Friday when school is in session. PGT’s are paid $165 per day and guaranteed a substitute assignment each day. The HR office will place you throughout the district to cover for an absence or as an “extra” in a building if all absences are covered. Must be flexible and open to all classrooms and schools.

Can’t commit to every school day? That works for us, too! “Daily” substitutes work as needed and select their own assignment (school/grade level/subject) and are paid $150 per day.

Choose the option that works for you!
