Hour of Code
Students in grades 2-6 have spent the last two weeks coding using the Hour of Code program. They are learning a great deal, and it is wonderful to see what a collaborative learning experience this is for the students. They are eager to share with one another as they learn how to navigate through the coding.
Hour of Code is a web-based program that students can use anywhere. As long as they can access the Internet, they can access Code.org.
For students to utilize the site they should:
- Go to the HES Library Webpage.
- Click on the Hour of Code link.
- Click on their teacher’s name.
- Click on their own name.
- Enter their password. Students in grades 3-6 have a randomly generated two-word password. Students in second grade have a picture. All passwords were randomly generated by Code.org.
All students received their password in Library. If you would like your child to work on the Hour of Code program from home and he/she cannot remember the password please e-mail hadams@crsd.org and Mrs. Adams will help you.
Thursday, December 21st - Spirit Day
Wear Pajamas or Cozy Clothes for the First Day of Winter!
The Great Toy Room Cleanout
Currently at HES, more than ever, we are striving to incorporate STEM activities across the curriculum. We are looking for ways to help children to design, create, and explore. Holland Elementary would like some of your old toys: Legos, Lincoln Logs, Magna Tiles, K’nex Kits, Castle Logix, building blocks, and anything else low tech or no tech.
We are not asking for entire sets - just a handful of extras you have to spare. If each student would provide a small amount it would add up to ample opportunities to enhance our students’ learning. Donated items will be sorted into bins and housed in our school’s science lab for teachers to use with their classes. Thanks so much for helping us with this project!

CR Education Foundation
As we enter the holiday season, please consider honoring that special teacher or staff member with a gift to the Council Rock Education Foundation (CREF). Your donation comes directly back to the students and staff in the school district through teacher grants to support innovative programs in Council Rock classrooms. Donations may be sent by check, to the address below, using the form at the bottom of this page or online via the Education Foundation website, www.creducationfoundation.org. All donations are tax-deductible.

Council Rock’s 7th Annual You Be the Chemist Challenge
The You Be The Chemist (YBTC) Challenge® is a fun and innovative academic competition associated with the Chemical Education Foundation and Dow Chemical. The YBTC Challenge® is an interactive event in which fifth through eighth grade students work with teachers, peers and Science National Honor Society students to learn about important chemistry concepts, scientific discoveries, and laboratory safety. This program also educates students about the value of science education and the role of chemistry in their everyday lives. We can’t wait to see what this year’s participants accomplish! A special thanks to Dow Chemical and CREF for sponsoring this annual event. Please click here if you are interested in learning more. If you have any questions please email Tduke@crsd.org
