Principal's Message

Our teachers look forward to beginning conferences with you about your child(ren) in the upcoming weeks. Teachers will be in touch soon regarding scheduling a time to talk with you about your child(ren)'s strengths and opportunities for growth. A healthy partnership between the parent, teacher, and student can make all the difference in the trajectory of a child's life. "Together may we give our children the roots to grow and the wings to fly” anonymous.

As always, if I can ever be of any assistance to you, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

Building the Bridge Together,

Mandy Kubbs

Unity Day

We are excited to be celebrating Unity Day on October 20th. Unity Day occurs during National Bullying Prevention Month in October. As part of our schools mission to be inclusive of all students, we encourage everyone to wear Orange. We wear orange to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying. The days prior to Unity day students will be discussing the No Place For Hate pledge and what that looks like in the classroom, on the playground, and at home/in the community.

Inclusive Survey for Families

In the coming weeks/months, students will continue to learn more about our dragon characteristics of Friendly, Inclusive, Respectful, and Engaged as we focus on continuing to be a "No Place for Hate" school .To help us gain a better understanding of the community we serve, we would like to provide your family with the opportunity to share information about your family's culture and traditions. Should you wish to share any information with us, please submit the form below once for all child(ren) that attends DBES. For example, a family with three (3) children at DBES will only need to complete this form one time for the entire family. We appreciate your input as we continue to try to be inclusive of all of our Dragons!

This year, teachers will use a tool to measure important life skills that help students grow and succeed throughout their school years, and beyond. These skills are known as social and emotional skills and include things like taking responsibility for one’s actions, persisting at challenging tasks, and working well with others. The tool, called the DESSA, is not a test that is administered to students. Instead, it is a series of questions classroom teachers will answer for each student. Similar to universal academic screening, the purpose of the DESSA is to help identify which skills students have already learned and which skills they might still need to develop. Your child’s initial results will be shared with you during the fall parent/teacher conference. If you would like to learn more, please visit Aperture's Parent Portal, or click here to learn how these skills are connected to the Profile of SC Graduate.
