Winter Maker Day
When: Saturday, December 10, 2022

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Where: Nebraska Extension Douglas-Sarpy Central Office, 8015 W Center Rd. Omaha


The first annual Maker Day, hosted by our 4-H program, will spark youth’s innovative and entrepreneurial spirit! Youth will choose from three festive maker projects. This event is open to ALL Douglas and Sarpy youth ages 5-18. Youth ages 10 and under will need to bring a helper who is 16 years or older. Bring paint shirt or wear clothes that can get paint on them.

Registration and Payment due November 11, 2022
Registration Fee: $15 per youth

Clover Kid Club

Parents and children ages 5-7 are invited to be a part of the Douglas-Sarpy 4-H Clover Kid Program.


November's agenda - Learning about Nebraska's unique government (Unicameral) and we will start growing Avocados!


Clover Kid Dates: Nov. 8, Dec. 6, Jan 10, Feb 7, March 7, April 4, and May 2.

Time: 6-7 pm

There is no cost to attend, but participants are asked to preregister with Rachel at rwright4@unl.edu.

4-H Project Idea - Houseplants

Curious about learning more about the houseplant 4-H Project? Make plans to attend our Horticulture Workshop.


Horticulture 101


When: January 4, 2023

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Where: Nebraska Extension Douglas-Sarpy Central Office, 8015 W Center Rd. Omaha


At this workshop, youth will learn about taking care of houseplants and how to make them look good for the fair. Youth will get to plant and take home their own houseplant to grow! Cost is $10 per youth.

4-Hers of the Week - Eliza Boyd

Friday feature 4-Her Eliza Boyd! At the 2022 fair, Eliza's Home Environment projects were not only Selected for State Fair, but they also received the Judge's Special Recognition.


The purpose of Home Environment is to learn design principles and develop graphic design techniques. In addition, activities in this category encourage well-thought-out design plans and diverse artistic techniques. Be sure to take note of the rules section to develop a successful project. Please note the enrollment fee for Douglas-Sarpy counties is $10 per member and is paid online. Enrollments are due June 15, 2023.

New 4-H Volunteers for Douglas-Sarpy 4-H will need to be screened and have a background check done. Volunteers may not work with youth until volunteer enrollment and screening is complete. To begin the screening process visit and enroll via 4-H Online.

Mechanical Engineering Workshop

When: November 29, 2022

Time: 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Where: Nebraska Extension Douglas-Sarpy Central Office, 8015 W Center Rd. Omaha

Cost $15


In this engaging workshop, youth (ages 8 and older) will learn about mechanical engineering and apply skills learned to build cardboard automatas! Cardboard automata is a type of mechanical sculpture made of simple materials. As youth build, they can explore simple machine elements such as cams, levers, and linkages in a playful way. Join us as we bring stories and ideas to life with these cool mechanical sculptures that can be entered into fair!

Statewide Opportunities

Nebraska 4-H Fed Steer Challenge - Sign up by Nov. 18

The Nebraska 4-H Fed Steer Challenge is a unique opportunity for teens to learn more about the Nebraska cattle industry and develop skills to help them lead that industry in the future. Applications are now open for youth interested in participating in 2023. Visit 4h.unl.edu/fed-steer-challenge to learn more about this opportunity or to apply.

Nebraska Dairy Ambassador Program

The Dairy Ambassadors have the opportunity to connect with consumers and share dairy’s story while networking with their peers and industry professionals. The program is designed for college students (enrolled full-time in a Nebraska post-secondary school) and high school junior (11th grade) and senior (12th grade) students interested in promoting dairy.


Students can apply at www.MidwestDairy.com, in the For Young Dairy Leaders tab/section, under Ambassador Programs then select Nebraska. More details can be found on the webpage plus the online application (APPLY NOW) is at the bottom of the program page. Online applications are due DECEMBER 15, 2022.

2023-2024 Nebraska Poultry Education Scholarship

Nebraska residents, those attending school in Nebraska, or those interested in a career in poultry-based in Nebraska are encouraged to apply for the 2023-2024 Nebraska Poultry Education Scholarship. A total of eight $1,000 scholarships can be awarded for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Nebraska residents, those attending school in Nebraska, or those interested in a career in poultry-based in Nebraska are encouraged to apply for the 2023-2024 J.H. & J.W. Claybaugh Memorial Scholarship.

Nebraska Association of Fair Managers Scholarship

On Behalf of the Nebraska Association of Fair managers, we would like present the Don and Martha Romeo Scholarship to one qualifying 4-H male and to one qualifying 4-H female who are graduating seniors in the State of Nebraska and who plan to continue with post high school education for the amount of $500 each. The scholarship will be awarded at the annual NAFM convention in January.
