Ms. Crisp's Weekly Newsletter
January 20th - 22nd, 2016
What's Happening This Week?
This week is our awesome field trip to the French Broad Chocolate Factory! Due to occupancy restrictions at the Factory, we've had to split up my class - half is going Thursday with Mrs. Wells' class and half is going Friday with Ms. Caldwell's class. PLEASE make sure your child has turned in their signed permission slip! Your child cannot attend the field trip if they do not have their permission slip signed. The last day to turn in permission slips is tomorrow, Wednesday the 20th!
Please continue to send your child to school with warm and toasty winter coats on! It's supposed to be extremely cold this week, so make sure your child has enough on to keep them warm at recess!
Finally, the school's new dismissal procedures start tomorrow! A letter went home with your student about exactly how that process will work, and you can also find the information on the school website at http://jones.ashevillecityschools.net/pages/Ira_B__Jones_Elementary/News/School_Safety_Information.
What Are We Learning This Week?
- Daily 5: Finishing up our persuasive letters to the mayor; working on adverbs vs. adjectives; and, as always, building up stamina to be better readers and writers.
- Reading Groups: Finishing up vocabulary and using context clues.
- Social Studies: Continuing our economics unit, including our field trip to the French Broad Chocolate Factory to study a real life example!
- Math: Continuing using skip counting and arrays to learn multiplication. Reviewing area. Working on our multiplication facts and fluency. Be practicing with those multiplication cards!
