Message From Mrs. Taormina
It's starting to look and feel like fall! Here are some things families can do to prepare for the rain forecasted for this week.
- Leave a few minutes earlier in the morning because more families will be driving to school if it rains.
- Make sure your child comes to school with a jacket as we will be eating outside when it's cold and playing outside when there is a light sprinkle.
- Write students' names or initials on jackets, hats, and umbrellas.
- Place umbrellas and rain jackets near the door or in the car. If your child is going to use an umbrella please go over how to open it and carry it safely.
- Have your child have their jackets on before getting in the car to leave for school. That way, you are not holding up traffic in the drop-off zone when trying to get their jacket on.
We are excited to share we can now have a limited number of volunteers on campus: Art Vistas, Project Cornerstone, and someone to help with the copy room. If you are interested in getting involved and helping our school, please visit Oster's HSC page to sign up to be a much needed volunteer. https://osterhsc.membershiptoolkit.com/
Rainy Day COVID Guidelines
On rainy days, we will continue to have as many students eat outdoors as possible (we do have covered spaces). However, depending on how rainy, cold, and windy it is, we may have students eating and playing indoors. Below are the guidelines:
- Students will wear their masks and ONLY remove masks during eating and drinking.
A time limit of 13 minutes for eating will be set if eating indoors. Physical distancing as practicable. Students do not necessarily need to eat at their desks.
Older students are taught to replace their masks when not actively eating.
Students with allergies will be accommodated per current school protocols.
Covered areas outdoors with a table will be utilized if available.
Masks must remain on when having indoor recess after lunch.
Parent/Teacher Conferences (Nov. 8-9, 15-16, 18-19)
The first parent-teacher conference is designed to recognize your child's strengths and needs, to coordinate school and home support, and to better familiarize the classroom teacher with your child. In fact, it is a sharing time whereby parents and teachers discuss and plan how best to assist the child in the learning process. All Meetings will be held via Zoom.
This year, conferences will be held November 8-9, 15-16, 18-19. We will be on early release days (school is out at 1:15pm) everyday during this time.
Conferences are scheduled in time blocks set by the teachers. We ask your cooperation in being prompt to your conference time and date so there will be maximum time to talk about your child.
Please consider the items below before the conference to help with your conversation with the teacher:
· What are your child's strengths and needs?
· Does your child enjoy reading and/or writing?
· Does your child have an interest in math and/or science?
· How does your child show interest in art, drama and music?
· What physical activities does your child enjoy?
· How do you support school learning at home? How often do you read with your child?
· Is there educational, family, and/or medical history that may affect your child's educational growth that should be shared with the teacher? (This information will be kept confidential.)
Research shows that parent involvement in a child's education is a critical factor in determining the degree to which a child will be successful in school. Please make attending the parent/teacher conference one of the ways you will be involved in your child's education.
Halloween Happenings: Friday, October 29th
Halloween Parade:
On Friday students may wear their costumes to school and our parade. Due to COVID this year the parade will be only for the students and staff with the hope of returning to our traditional parade next year for friends and family to view. Please have your child wear clothing under their costumes so they can easily change out of the costume if they'd like.
Costumes:
Students are welcome to wear their costumes to school on Friday 10/29. Please keep in mind the following guidelines: We ask that children NOT wear costumes depicting violence or violent acts. This includes fake blood, gore, or imagery that would not be "G rated".
Please leave all toy guns, knives, and swords at home. Reserve elaborate costumes, face paint and make-up for trick or treating as these things can create a learning distraction.
Halloween is an exciting time. Let's all help to make sure it is a safe and positive experience for the children while at school. Thank you for your support with these guidelines.

Please stop by the lost and found in front of our front gate. As it starts to get cold, you will want to make sure you have all of your sweatshirts and jackets!
