NEW Volunteer Guidelines from Central Office

Starting January 1, 2016, all background checks must be COMPLETED for volunteer opportunities by the first of the month before the event/opportunity. Background checks are completed every school year by volunteers in the schools. This change does NOT require you to have multiple background checks in the same school year. If you have already completed a background check for 2015-16 and have been approved, you can volunteer for the remaining school year.

Volunteers and Visitors are two different types of guests in our schools.

Volunteers are defined as any individual that will be assisting staff and/or students in the school setting. Examples include assisting with or attending a classroom party, a class field trip or supervising students without a staff member present. Volunteers must have a paid background check.

Volunteer background checks must be completed at the 1st of the month prior to the experience that prompted the check. (I.E.: a trip that will occur on October 22nd must have forms submitted and ran no later than October 1st).

Visitors are also welcome and encouraged. At times, visitors are invited guests such as grandparents or veterans. Visitors to our schools do not need a paid background check although you can encourage frequent visitors to do so. A visitor is defined as any individual who will be in an assembly area such as an auditorium or gymnasium for the purpose of a play, assembly, etc.

All visitors must present a photo identification to front office staff AND be listed as a point of contact for the student they are visiting. **If the person is not listed, the parent must give their permission for the visit.

Visitors are also allowed in the cafeteria to eat lunch with their child. All visitors are required to report to the office, present photo identification and sign in when entering the building. All visitors must be supervised by a camera or a staff member.

In accordance with Missouri State law, persons listed on the sex offender registry may not be present in any school building, on district property, in any district vehicle utilized to transport students, or be present at school activities at any time.

Message from Mrs. Sanford

A Note from the Principal

Dear Hawk Point Families,

It was wonderful to see everyone at parent teacher conferences! Our students and teachers were excited to share student data notebooks with you. The partnership between school and home is important, as it allows us to work as a team to support your child and celebrate their progress together. Thank you for all your support and the time you dedicate to being involved in your child's education!

Just around the corner is the 8th Annual PTO Spaghetti Dinner! The Spaghetti Dinner will take place on November 7 at the Hawk Point Lions Club. The doors will open at 4:30 pm with a live auction beginning at 7:00 pm. Prices for an all you can eat spaghetti plate are $5 for adults and $3 for youth, with children ages 5 and under for free. This event serves as the only fundraiser for Hawk Point each year, with all the proceeds directly benefitting our students. The proceeds from this event have allowed our PTO to sponsor field trips for our students, purchase a yearbook for every child, provide books to students, purchase a leveled library for the building, science fair boards....just to name our few. If you are looking for ways to support our PTO at this event, we are in need of dessert donations or simply a donation of your time to help serve spaghetti. We have 30 minute volunteer shifts available. If you are interested in helping, please contact the main office at (636) 338-4366. I can't wait to see everyone there! Where else can you find an all you can eat spaghetti dinner for such a great price?

An additional event in November I would like to highlight is our Veteran's Day Assembly. We will be welcoming veterans and families to attend this event on November 11, beginning at 11:00 pm. The presentation is planned to conclude around 11:45 pm. If you or a family member have served our country, our team would like to extend a thank you to let you know that we appreciate your service and your dedication to our country. Keep an eye out for additional information coming home with your child soon. We look forward to honoring our veterans!

As always, please feel free to contact me with any comments, concerns or questions. I can be reached by email at sanfordm@troy.k12.mo.us or by phone at 636-338-4366. Thank you to all of you for your continued support

Proud to be a Hawk.

Our school attendance goal is to have 97% or better attendance as a building each day. Please support our work in reaching this goal daily by ensuring that your child attends school regularly and arrives on time. Student attendance has a direct link to their achievement and their enjoyment of school. We appreciate your support in helping your child attend school regularly.

If your child needs to be absent, please contact the main office by 9 am to report the absence, as well as the reason for absence. You may also send a doctor's note with your child if available.

Student attendance is regularly monitored according to district policy. If significant concerns with a student's attendance arise, our goal is to partner with families to improve attendance. If a student's attendance does not improve, a follow up with the appropriate authorities is possible.

Counselor's Corner

Have you ever struggled to come up with the right words to help your child through a tough situation? Do you worry about the emotional well-being of your child or his/her friends? A wonderful educational opportunity is now available at no cost to parents of R-3 students. Youth Mental Health First Aid is a course that teaches adults how to help a youth through a mental health challenge or crisis. This interactive 8-hour course provides information about signs and symptoms, typical adolescent development, and an action plan for responding to a youth in crisis. You will spend time practicing each step so that you have the confidence and skills needed to help a youth in need. Troy R-3 has already trained over 300 adults in Lincoln County, including parents, volunteers, educators, law enforcement, and health professionals. Thanks to grant funding, we are able to provide this course at no cost to parents of R-3 students, and at a minimal fee for anyone else. We will even feed you lunch! There is a course available approximately once per month. Contact your school counselor for more information.
