Dear Awbrey Park Families,
Wow, we have a lot of exciting activities happening at school this week, including a 4th grade Salmon field trip, school-wide PBIS incentives, Family Reading Night, and Pajama Day this Friday!
We are hosting our annual Family Reading Night TONIGHT from 6:00-7:30pm in the Awbrey Park gym. There will be a variety of exciting activities and a great opportunity to connect with our school community.
As a reminder, winter break begins Monday, December 16th and goes through Tuesday, January 3rd. I want to wish all our Awbrey Park families a safe and relaxing winter break. You will be greatly missed and we are eager to see you all again come January!
Sincerely,
Jared Tiecke, Principal

Jog-a-Thon Assembly!
Last month we had an assembly to celebrate all students who participated in our annual Jog-a-Thon. In total, we raised over $13,000 school-wide! I want to extend a special thank you to our PTO for all their help in organizing this event, as well as our students and families who helped in the fundraising efforts.
These funds have already been put to good use with our Kindergarten students getting the opportunity to visit the Detering Orchards in October and our 3rd grade students getting the opportunity to visit the Eugene Symphony at the Hult Center in November.
See some assembly pictures below!
Winter Break Food Assistance
The Pray Big Food Pantry (FFLC) is open this weekend, Saturday, December 17, 2022 between 10:00-11:30am at the St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church (4110 River Rd, Eugene, OR 97404). It is a shopping style pantry (choose your own food). No proof of income or ID required.
Join the PTO at Awbrey Park!
Are you interested in volunteering and/or helping to organize events at Awbrey Park? If so, consider joining the Awbrey Park Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO)! Our PTO meets on the second Monday of each month from 6:00-7:00pm.
This month, Cassidy Mills (Engineering Technician, Lane County Public Works, Transportation Services) joined us to discuss the Spring Creek Drive Traffic Calming Project scheduled to begin this summer.
Our January PTO meeting will be on Monday, January 9th at 6:30pm in Room 16. We have invited Sara Justice (4J ELA Teacher on Special Assignment) to talk about our new English Language Art Curriculum, Wit & Wisdom.
Please contact Kellie Rushing karushing22@gmail.com or Katie Schnider katie@ohdeugene.com for more information.
4th Grade Salmon Field Trip
Volunteering at Awbrey Park! (REPEAT)
We are excited to welcome volunteers back into our schools! If you are interested in volunteering at Awbrey Park Elementary School, please contact your child’s teacher for upcoming opportunities.
Volunteers will need to complete a volunteer application on the district website and be approved prior to volunteering. Please contact Kristie Long or Jade Chrissis in the school office at 541-790-4050 for more information.
Lost & Found
This is a reminder that our Lost & Found piles up every day near the cafeteria and all non-claimed items are donated at the end of December.
We do our best to return items labeled with students’ names to them. If you haven’t already, please label your students’ jackets and sweatshirts/sweaters with their names. Family Reading Night is a great time to check the Lost & Found for items before winter break. We hope to see you there!
Inclement Weather (REPEAT)
With the possibility of inclement weather quickly approaching, this would be great time to double check that your contact information is updated in the event of a school closure or delay. Information will be communicated through our regular notification system (via text, voicemail and email) from the district office. You can subscribe to our flash alert notification system by visiting the Eugene School District website or by logging into ParentVue and updating your contact information.
U of O COVID-19 Weekly Testing Program (December Newsletter)
Dear K-12 Students and Guardians,
We are back with the December newsletter! As a reminder, the K-12 Screening Testing Program will be sending out a monthly newsletter to all enrolled participants in our testing program. The newsletters will be an opportunity for our testers to learn more about our program and how it works from the perspective of our testing labs. Please let us know what you would like to hear about in the next issue! Thank you for participating in testing with the University of Oregon and keeping your community safe!
Winter Weather Notice: The University has inclement weather policies that can potentially delay your lab results. If the University is closed or has a delayed start, the testing personnel will not be able to run the tests. Sometimes this means that a test that’s sent in on (for example) a Monday may not get run until the following Wednesday, if the weather is bad enough. We understand the urgency of getting test results back and will work to make sure that any weather impacts are as minimal as possible.
Please contact C19studentsupport@uoregon.edu if you have any questions or if you need assistance.
