Springwater Trail High School - May/June 2018

Principal's Message

Dear Springwater community,

Summer is right around the corner! We are in our last few weeks of the last grading period of the semester -- the final stretch of the academic year. Please continue to support your student and reach out to the school if you have questions or concerns about current grades in Synergy.

Our Spring Community Care Day was last Friday, May 25th. We spent the morning volunteering at Dabney State Recreation Area followed by a barbecue with games and activities in the afternoon. It was a great way to bring closure to the school year while helping out a wonderful natural resource in our area. Visit our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter for more information about this event and all the other great activities that occur each week at STHS.

As we look to the summer, Barlow's summer school will be held at Springwater Trail High School this year. Their campus is undergoing renovation thanks to the passage of the recent school bond. If your student needs to catch up on credits, this is a great summer to do summer school because Springwater students will be able to take their courses at Springwater! Call the office or reach out to Linda Centurion for more information.

It has been another truly wonderful school year! Enjoy your summer and we look forward to a new, exciting school year next September.

Seniors Last Day

Due to the inclement weather days, the board approved to move Seniors last day from Friday June 1 to Tuesday June 5. This will allow Senior's to have enough instructional hours for the school year.

A revised calendar is attached below.

Please pay attention to the attached Senior Calendar of Events leading up to graduation. Times for graduation practice are listed. Please note the following things:

  • Graduation, June 14, 2018, 7:00 PM Sam Barlow High School Auditorium

  • Mandatory Graduation practice, June 14, 2018, 9:00 AM Sam Barlow High School Auditorium

  • Please note STHS only requires Cap & Gown Unit for graduation, all other items are optional.

  • Students may NOT decorate their caps. Any decorated caps will be removed before the graduate is allowed to walk.

STHS 1st Annual Camp Fire

Springwater's 1st ever Camp Fire is on Tuesday June 5th from 7-9pm. Hotdogs and S'mores will be provided. Tickets can be purchased for $3 in the office.

Go Jovany Go!

Big picture

Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation Awards Grant for LEGO Mindstorms

Many students are familiar with LEGO blocks from their childhood. But the LEGO Mindstorm sets that the Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation awarded to teacher Brad Gerards take LEGOs to a new level.

Mr. Gerards plans to use the kits in programming and robotics as part of the Computer Applications course for STHS freshmen. Students will practice problem solving and teamwork skills as they work together to achieve programming and engineering tasks in an engaging way.

Grant funding for the Springwater Trail High School grant was provided by the Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation. The Foundation provides financial support for increased learning opportunities for every student in the district. This year, $20,000 was awarded to schools to enrich and enchance the education of Gresham-Barlow students.
