News From the Nest
Nature's Recyclers
During the Nature’s Recyclers unit Doyle fifth grade students learned that worms can be helpful in composting kitchen and garden scraps, wastepaper and other things. Students also learned that worms are beneficial in gardens, lawns and anywhere there are plants, because their burrows help to bring air and water to the roots of plants, and their droppings, or castings, are an excellent source of readily available nutrition for the plants. With the help of CB West students, the fifth graders are now getting the opportunity to see worms in action by building their own worm habitats.
