Inklings II

"You can make anything by writing." C.S. Lewis

It's finally here!

Welcome, teen writers! This is our very first issue of Inklings II, a monthly newsletter designed for and by Christian teen writers. I say our, not only because this is a place to keep learning about the craft of writing, the world of publishing, and how to make an impact with your words, but it is a place for your voice to be heard. If you are an alumni of the TEEN TRACK at the INWCW Conference, or will be attending this year, you will be invited to submit your writing and articles to this publication. This is where our teen writing family can stay connected and support each other, too. Hopefully, our circle will expand-do you know other teens who write, or want to? Any Christian teen writer can subscribe to Inklings II-all you need is an email address and your parent's permission if you're under 18. I hope you enjoy our first issue, and until we connect again-Write On!

Got C.H.O.C.O.L.A.T.E.?

I've got some chocolate in my pocket...but that's not the kind I want to share with you! Every month, I will share a "bite" with you, starting this month with the letter "C." When we have sampled and digested the whole C.H.O.C.O.L.A.T.E. bar, you will have a pocketful of tools to pursue the craft with excellence. Here's our first bite:

C stands for Creativity. All good writers gotta get them some of this (we'll talk about grammar later on). It's not just for fiction writers. Every writer needs to think "outside the box," and use their imagination. You do remember imagination, right? That thing that was always with you as a kid, and made your world more fun and colorful? Yeah, that. No matter what your genre-fiction, non-fiction, poetry, your writing will be so much better infused with creativity. And if you think you don't have any, there's a (brain) app for that (stay tuned)!

Think about the photo below, then use your imagination to write two or three paragraphs about it in the fiction genre. Don't over think it; just imagine, and write. If you email it to me, I will publish the most creative entry.

And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it." Habakkuk 2:2
