Miss Lotter's Leaders!

Parent Newsletter November 30-December 4

Hello Parents!

It has been such a wonderful week! So many great things have happened, but the biggest one being WE TIED FOR FIRST PLACE AT THE FUN RUN FUNDRAISER! Now, I am not one to brag, but I HAVE to brag on these kids and on you! I have never seen a group of people support a school in such a short amount of time then you all have. It is truly inspiring how strong the community is at Claxton. Because the kids tied for first place, they get an extra specialist class of their choosing, a myriad of rewards that they already received, they get to pie me in the face, have a secret santa event, and I got to slime Mrs. Dechant! If you want to check out the awesome pictures and videos from that assembly, you can scroll below, and there will be many more pictures of the other rewards to come!

Missing Work this week

Progress reports went out this past week. If there were any students that I had concerns with about missing work, we spoke and they were provided with new copies of the assignment. I will be sending you all emails this week with a missing work report for your child.

Peek at the week!

Math: In math this week, we will continue our unit on division. Division is directly tied to multiplication, so please continue to support your student by making sure that they are comfortable with their basic multiplication facts!

Language Arts: We will continue accountability in daily five this week! Each day, the students will track their choices and what they accomplished during each round. Students will have the option to listen to reading, read to someone, read to self, work on words, and work on writing. We are focusing on how to write a well constructed response using evidence from the text.

In writing, we will begin our new unit on opinion writing.

Science: We are going to be continuing our unit that we started this past week on magnets!

Place Value disk instructional video!

Many of you have requested that I make an instructional video to help you understand the place value disk strategy for division. So, I made the video below! If you have any further questions or requests for other videos, please let me know!

Short division instructional video!

Short division is a strategy that we learned last week to divide numbers. This is very similar to long division, but much easier and faster! The kids really like this strategy, so if you would like to learn it in order to help your child at home, please watch the video below!
Speed Guide to Short Division

Leader of the week!

Our leader of the week is Emily Rowell! She has been a leader by being proactive and taking control of her own learning. She has done a great job of being engaged, keeping up with the work, and being successful in class. Awesome job Emily!

Reminders and support!

-Please make sure that you are up to date with the Raleigh paperwork and payments.
-I have also posted the payment schedule below for reference.

Payment Dates and Deadlines:

  • January 25th (Monday)- Second payment of $35.00 due to your child’s homeroom teacher.

  • February 23rd (Tuesday)- Third, and FINAL payment of $30.00 due to your child’s homeroom teacher.

On February 23rd, you should be paid up for the entire cost of the trip, $135.00/student.

-We are going to try to bring back community snack! I think that the kids are going to do a much better job at keeping our room clean this time. If you can donate snack that would be greatly appreciated! All that we ask is that the snacks come to the classroom prepackaged.

-We need one subject notebooks.

-As always, the most support we need is for you to continue to encourage your child to come to school and try their best! Also, to really help them in becoming a leader through emphasizing those leadership habits whenever possible.

Thank you for all that you do!
