Mrs. Slaten's 4th Grade Class

Math

We have been working on Ch. 10 " Customary Measurement". We will be learning how to convert length, capacity, weight, and time. We will also learn how to display measurement data in a line plot and solve measurement problems. You can help your child learn these math skills by grocery shopping (noticing the capacity of items), measuring items, cooking, weighing things, and telling time.

Reading

Students continue to work on their comprehension skills and responding to text in their book clubs. We are still working on inferencing skills, author's purpose, and comparing/contrasting. We will take the end-of-year i-ready reading test to see the progress students have made since the beginning of school.

Students will read informational books for the month of April. They will be making a "bulletin board" for their project. (Due May 2nd) All library books due April 29th!

Writing /Grammar

We have begun working on our "blank books". Students enjoy creating their own books. They may also use photos and/or illustrate their books. This is our final writing and grammar project.

Spelling

Students will receive their spelling word list on Monday and will be tested over their words on Friday. Students should know what sort they are in on Spelling City. Students may practice their cursive handwriting skills by writing their spelling words in cursive three times each.

Science

We are working on Ch.7 "Electricity". We have been building different types of circuits. We have made electromagnets and will be finishing Ch. 7. We will have an open-book quiz over Ch. 7 "Electricity" on Wed. May 3rd.

We will then go back to our "Nature Unleashed" booklets and review caves and glades before our upcoming field trip to Smallin Cave on Tues. May 10th.

S.S.

The Springfield Nature Center came and introduced "Lewis and Clark" to the 4th grade. They will continue to learn about the adventures and discoveries made by them.

Planners

Students have planners to record their daily work and homework assignments. Please check and sign your child's planner each day.
